Literacy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In literacy we have been investigating how to create a range of texts from notes that we have made.\u00a0 We began by researching information about famous Russians and then created a biography.\u00a0 Now we are making notes on the advantages and disadvantages of renewable\/ non- renewable energies in order to write a persuasive piece of writing called an exposition.\u00a0 We celebrated book week by joining in with lots of book week related tasks \u2013 we created a school relay story, we joined in with a BBC Live Lesson and Mrs Welsh went to the book shop to collect our free book.\u00a0 We are looking forward to adding these to our \u201cFirst Minister\u2019s Reading Passport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In numeracy we have been learning \u00a0strategies for long multiplication and division including the \u201cchimney method\u201d and the \u201cgrid method.\u201d\u00a0 Miss Foote came to do our number talk with us on Tuesday and she was \u201cblown away\u201d with our mental arithmetic skills.\u00a0 In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of increasingly complex shapes \u2013 polygons and quadrilaterals.<\/p>\n

IDL<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of Science fortnight, our topic work has had a STEM focus.\u00a0 We have been nurturing our eggs in their incubator.\u00a0 On Monday, we learned how to \u201ccandle\u201d our eggs to see if any of them contained a growing chick.\u00a0 Unfortunately , it doesn\u2019t look like the eggs have developed into chicks but we are hoping to have another try after the Easter holidays.\u00a0 Fingers crossed that we have better luck the next time.\u00a0 We were also using our engineering and problems solving skills to build the tallest tower possible using just spaghetti and mini marshmallows and creating a paper bridge strong enough to hold 15 unifix cubes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We have had a number of pupil led lessons since our last blog.\u00a0 This is where one of the pupils in class has an opportunity to teach the rest of the class a skill they are really good at.\u00a0 We have had a great lessons on Coding, Football Skills and Origami.<\/p>\n

RME<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In RME we have been learning about festivals from across the world and how they link to religion. We were making connections between British Pancake day and Russian Maslanitsa Day.\u00a0 We made our own pancakes to celebrate. This also involved us using our reading skills and measuring skills in order to follow the recipe accurately.<\/p>\n

We have also been discussing the importance of Holy week to Christians and looking at famous works of art that illustrate the key events of Holy Week. Do you recognise any?<\/p>\n

Assembly<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n
