P4’s Measuring Fun!

In Primary 4, we have been having fun measuring the volume and capacity of a variety of containers using cups and spoons, and litres and millilitres. We even made our own containers and had a competition to see whose container could hold the most lentils. Have you been measuring at home for any reason? What did you measure and why? Post your replies below…

Money week in nursery

During money week, our role play area has become a grocers/cafe. Our children have enjoyed dressing up in our chefs outfit and setting a table for customers or being a sales assistant, scanning through customers purchases. We have also offered fresh fruit/veg to purchase in the grocers, this has helped the children explore textures and smells of real produce. Within numeracy Grouptime and at our math table, we have investigated and grouped different types of coins. We have identified coin characteristics by size, colour and value. Some of our children have started to for the beginnings of a graph to help analyse the information.imageimage

Solve it Blocks

Our nursery children are beginning to work with Solve it Blocks. This set of 12 large blocks, are designed to support and enhance children’s teamwork, numeracy, literacy, problem solving and health and well being skills. The blocks display a selection of colours, pictures, letters and numbers. Children then have to work together to match a pattern on a card. The patterns get more challenging as the children develop their abilities. Pictures to follow.

Topic Maths in Primary 1

symmetry

Primary 1 have been very busy learning all about symmetry and money. We have played games to find the other half of a symmetrical picture and created pictures showing symmetry. Primary 1 have also been learning about all the coins we use to buy things and are beginning to use our counting and adding skills to calculate the amount of money we have. We really enjoy working with money and look forward to using this skill in our everyday lives!

Primary 2 Maths

We are busy bees in Primary 2 and have been building on our learning in our shape topic, by developing and applying our knowledge in tiling.  We have also begun to explore fractions by finding a half of shapes.  We now know a half is two parts of a whole and each half has to be equal to each other.  We are doing super work in maths and are looking forward to learning more about fractions.
