P3/2 share their Fairtrade fun and Area challenge!

P3/2 have had another busy week. We have been learning more about Fairtrade and celebrating Fairtrade fortnight by writing our own poems and taking part in a big Fairtrade breakfast. We enjoyed taking part in the Fairtrade quiz- Do you know how many bananas are eaten in the UK each year?

We have also been learning about measuring the area of shapes and objects and have used counters and squares to calculate, investigate and draw areas.

We worked with a partner to measure the area of our hands and feet and sorted them from greatest to smallest.

On Thursday, we were set a challenge from a special fairy visitor to our classroom. We measured the correct area to create a fairy and elf picnic, including a picnic blanket, cup, plate, apple, cake and sandwich. The faries loved our work and left us a special thank you beside our fairy door! How exciting!

We are looking forward to sharing our i journals and showing our new classroom to our parents next week! We are sure that you will love looking at all of our hard work.

March in P7

March is going to be an extremely busy month for us all in P7! Of course, we have our show to look forward to and we are rehearsing a lot (these show songs are really getting stuck in our heads now)! The show is called ‘Shakespeare Rocks’ and yes…you guessed it, it’s all about William Shakespeare! It’s very funny and we can’t wait for the whole school and our families to see it; we’re working very hard! We are really enjoying the whole experience and it is also giving us the opportunity to learn about Shakespeare too!

There are two opportunities to see the show, with an afternoon and evening performance. All P7 children were given a letter with all the details regarding tickets last week. We also would like to ask that if anyone has any Tudor/Elizabethan costumes and you would consider kindly to loaning them to us for the performances, it would be much appreciated! All costumes would be returned to you after the last performance!
All P7 children were sent home with a maths booklet with different concepts for them to apply the maths skills they have been developing at school. We have worked extremely hard in maths over the last few weeks identifying strategies and using our ‘How to..’ jotter to record what we have been learning.

Don’t forget you should also be learning lines for the show and learning the lyrics for all eight songs (which are included in the script).
Not long now until ‘showtime’ and we can’t wait!

Scottish Cooking and Baking in P4

In P4, we have been having great fun learning about, making and tasting Scottish foods. The first food we made together was a (child-friendly) cranachan – we used oats, yoghurt, raspberries and honey. We also baked shortbread for our Burns Party. Both were delicious! Well most of us thought so anyway! We are doing all of this through our food technology lessons with Mrs Logan. We are learning to prepare food and use equipment in a hygienic and safe way. We use our reading skills as we read the recipe and we use our maths skills as we measure the ingredients. We have to cooperate with our friends and work as a team. We can’t wait to find out what we are making next!

P3/2 learning and achievement

A huge well done to all of the P3/2 pupils who recieved certificates in assembly today.

Our achievement certificates were presented to Lucas, Finn, Eilidh and Heidi. Our Scots Poetry certificates were awarded to Josh, Arran and Sara.

This week we have been very busy exploring and investigating man made and natural materials in our school environment. We visited the nursery playground as an outdoor learning experience and found lots of examples of each.

We enjoyed learning about the customs and traditions of the Islam festival of Eid  and created lanterns, cards and hand art as part of our learning. We can’t wait to display our beautiful work in our new classroom!

Tree Diagrams in P4

In P4 we are continuing with our Information Handling topic and had fun sorting and displaying information in tree diagrams. We did a few class examples which included questions about foods that we like and pets. We then had the chance to work in groups to make our own tree diagrams and survey our classmates.
