Another busy day in Primary 1

The boys and girls in Primary 1 had a very exciting morning. They had a special visitor who brought various interesting animals to school. The children really enjoyed playing with and learning about the different lizards, snakes, guinea pigs and birds.

In the afternoon we all enjoyed taking part in our Sports Day. The races were great fun and everybody did so well. The sport challenges were great and we really enjoyed showing off our skills. Our parents, teachers and friends were very impressed with our achievements.

Thank you all so much for coming to our Sports Day. We hope you had fun too.

Busy Week in Primary 1

It has been another very busy week for Primary 1. The boys and girls have enjoyed taking part in Health Week activities and they particularly liked their Dance and Enjoy-a-ball sessions.

If only you could see how good we were throwing, catching, rolling, balancing a ball.

The boys and girls in Primary 1 took part in the Empty Classroom Day today. We all took our learning outside and we are very proud of our well done work. Look at our letters! They are all neat, beautiful and formed correctly! And that is not easy when writing with chalk.

We also had a very successful achievement assembly. We are so proud of the children who received certificates this month.P6170759 P6170760 P6170761 P6170763 P6170764 101_4321

We are looking forward to performing our dances in front of our friends from P2 on Monday afternoon.

Inspire Afternoon in P1B

What a fantastic afternoon we had in Primary 1! Thank you everyone for all your brilliant ideas and designs and all your hard work! It was great to see so many parents in the classroom supporting their little ones. We really enjoyed the opportunity this morning  to walk around the classroom and look at all the great models of Scottish landmarks – they are all so creative and interesting.

P1 Timetable

This term all P1 children will have indoor PE on a Tuesday so you may wish to keep shirts and ties for other days! As children will have to dress and undress independently it would help if they could practise putting on and taking off their school uniform.

P1a and P1b will have reading on Tuesdays and Thursdays and P2/1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please follow the instructions in your child’s reading record. Reading folders should be brought to school everyday. If you have not yet provided your child with a reading folder please send one in on Monday.

P1 Sounds Super stars

Our teachers are so impressed with how well we have learned our first sounds and we hope you will be too. We have brought home our sound tubs to practise our sounds and actions with you. If you would like to have a family singsong all the Jolly Phonics songs can be found on youtube.

If you have not yet provided your child with a sound tub please send one in on Monday. Children will need their sound tubs at school every day.

Welcome to Primary 1!

We have had a wonderful start to the session and are so impressed with how well all the boys and girls are settling into school and their new routine. We have enjoyed getting to know each other in class and we are looking forward to building our relationships with parents too. There will be many opportunities for you to come into school over the course of the year but at this point in time we are desperately seeking parent helpers! If you would be able to help please let your child’s teacher know.

Please can you continue to remind your child what their home time arrangements are and also discuss their lunch options. This helps everything to run smoothly during the school day.

Nessie needs our help!

Primary 1 received an email from Nessie! She needs our help because she would like to find out all about Scotland but she cannot leave her loch. Over the next few weeks the boys and girls in Primary 1 will be helping her to learn about Scotland. We will use this information to help us design and make a coat hook, hoopla game or desk tidy in technology. We will develop lots of skills such as drilling, sawing, cutting and painting. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve made!

As part of this topic we will also be doing outdoor learning. Each week different groups will be using our outdoor area to be creative and learn more about Scotland. This includes the Scottish weather as we will be going out in all weathers!

Last week we enjoyed discovering Scottish and Fairtrade food in our food technology lesson. We learned different skills such as spreading and cutting. Our favourite part was eating what we made!

Living room from the past

Super Gran came to visit again and this time she helped us learn what living rooms used to look like when she was a young girl. We were so surprised to find out that TVs were black and white and only had a few channels! It was fun to learn about record players and how they work. We made a TV and a record player out of junk material.
