P 3/4

We have been busy in Primary 3/4.

Maris: “Making our Monster Listening Posters”

Adam: “We learnt to listen like monsters using our mouths to listen, you be quiet and don’t say any weird noises.”

Oliver: “You can listen with your brain by thinking about what the person is saying.”

Leivi: “They listen with their hands by putting them on their lap and not fiddling with anything.”

Ciara: “They listen with their feet by crossing their legs and keeping their feet in”

Leah: “They listen with their eyes by looking at the person who is talking.”

Brodie: “Their heart, they care about what people are saying.”

Connor: “They face their body to the person who is talking.”

Brodie: “We have started using Sway to let parents no what we have been learning.”

Maris: ” We have been learning about not bullying other people and we went in pairs to create an anti-bullying poster and then coloured it in it to display in Westfield.”

Oliver: ” We have been learning about hygiene and germs.”

Maris: “To show we know what germs are we designed a germ each and we had to give the germ a name, where it lived, how it spreads, its symptoms and the treatment.”

P5/6/7

We have been continuing to learn about the Jacobites, writing a biography about Bonnie Prince Charlie and a newspaper report on the Battle of Culloden. We had to write in the appropriate form and use adjectives. We had our VCOP pyramids to help us.

In math and numeracy the Pentagons and Squares  have been calculating the volume of solid shapes and the capacity a container can hold. This would be helpful if we wanted to be a pharmacist. The Rectangles have been working on measurements. This is a good skill to have for many jobs and accuracy is paramount. The triangles have been looking at different kinds of triangles, their names and properties. We have been continuing to do Number Talks and are finding the division ones tricky.

In art we did black line drawings on the battle of Culloden and drew a landscape picture of the battle scene, taking perspective and colours into account.

We have been learning how to play Futsal from a specialist coach on a Friday morning. It originated in Brasil and is mostly played on sand. The ball has to be on the ground most of the time and you can’t touch it with your hands. It is fun but exhausting. It is a game for practising skills. Here are some pictures of us having fun.

What have p1/2 been learning about?

We have been learning about what the police do.  She told us that when people don’t listen to her she can spray their eyes with a nippy spray. We got to try out the handcuffs, hats and jacket and she even handcuffed Miss Bredin!

We have also been learning about what a vet does to look after pets. We learned that different animals need different sizes of injections. We also learned how they would bandage a dogs sore paw. We learned that sometimes vets have to use a muzzle so that the animals don’t bite them. We got to see how the vet finds a microchip in a pet if it is lost. We also got to see x-rays of a snake, a lizard and a hedgehog.

P2s have been learning about 3d shapes. We made them from cocktail sticks, little coloured sticks or lollysticks and playdoh. We found this a little bit challenging and had to use our problem solving skills to complete them. P1s made 2d shapes (triangles, squares and rectangles) from the same materials.
