Children’s Choice

We had a big vote to choose a new toy for the nursery. We each had a vote and we created a large bar graph. There was lots of valuable discussions using mathematical language like ‘most’,  ‘more than’ and ‘least’. Also the concept of democracy – one man/woman one vote was discussed many times. A lot of learning from one simple bar graph! The favourite was the Busy Bee pictured below and it has turned out to be a very popular choice.

Housekeeping Note

  • We are planning to wash all the nursery jackets this week so we would ask that your child wears a play jacket to nursery until the end of term. This way the children can still enjoy all the outside activities without worrying about getting clothes dirty.
  • We would also like to wash the bags that you use to keep a change of clothes and indoor shoes in. If they could be emptied by Friday the 24th that would be great.

Pakistani Day

As part of multi cultural week, Ibrahim and Hadiyaah brought their mums to help tell us about Pakistan. We got to see how we would dress if we lived there and even got to try some outfits on. We all thought they were very beautiful. We enjoyed hearing about the different modes of transport and seeing them all decorated with gems and gold. We also got to taste some traditional sweeties from Pakistan.

Sports Day Reminder

Sports day is this Thursday (16th) and the long range weather forecast is suggesting rain. If this is the case the sports day will be held in the gym hall. We will put chairs for the spectators on the stage ensuring you get the best view of the finish line! There are steps to get on the stage so please help those with buggies etc. to get up.

Nursery Graduation

Nursery Graduation Ceremony

The nursery graduation ceremony takes place on Tuesday 28th. Doors open at 9.30/1.30. Every child in the nursery has been working hard at practising their songs, rhymes and dance moves! All children (ante-pre and pre-school) will get a small present and certificate to celebrate the fact they are moving on. Three tickets are reserved for each family and others should be available if requested. There is no charge for the tickets this year but there will be a donations bucket. There will be refreshments offered at the end of the ceremony and it would be lovely to have a wee chat before you all head off. We hope to finish around 11.00/3.00 so that the children can be ‘handed over’ in the hall. There will be allocated staff to ensure this is done safely. Remember when your child is ‘handed over’ you are then responsible for them.

We would kindly request that pre-school children wear a red top (school sweatshirt/polo shirt if possible) on the day and ante-pre children wear other colours (not red).

The nursery team are looking forward to seeing you all on this special occasion.

Polish Day

As part of our multi-cultural week, last week, Olivia and her mummy came to tell us some interesting information about Poland. We tried to count to five in Polish, say hello and goodbye and we learned about the different seasons and how the weather is different from Scotland. Olivia’s mum recruited some helpers to make a traditional Polish salad for snack, using apples, carrots and a little sugar.
