Getting ready for outdoors!

Getting dressed for going outdoors can be a lengthy process with little ones (especially in winter with all the extra clothing) as we are sure you are very aware of! But being able to put on a jacket, zip it up, put boots/shoes on etc all provide children with key co-ordination and fine motor practise (which all goes to help with holding a pencil and writing skills). Also being able to get dressed by themselves will fill children with pride and independence!

This extra time at home is a great opportunity to give your children that extra practise. It can provide great conversation as well… what is the weather like today? So what will we need to put on for going outside?

3 Simple Ways for Children to Put Coats On

Days of the week- Syllables song

Learning about and being introduced to syllables in the early years provides children with key skills needed for spelling and reading!

In nursery we touch on syllables by taking part in group time games where we clap, tap and stomp out syllables in our names and other simple words. Here is a song that will help children learn the days of the week but also introduce them to the syllables within the words.

Five Little Ducks

Nursery rhymes are so important for many reasons but a great nursery rhyme that encourages early counting and subtracting skills is Five Little Ducks.

Here is the link to the song- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZw9veQ76fo&feature=youtu.be

And an activity idea to make your very own duck pond which would support your little ones with re-telling the rhyme and their counting -https://www.messylittlemonster.com/2015/06/five-little-ducks-egg-carton-craft.html?m=1

Happy New Year!

Everyone at Deans Nursery would like to wish you a Happy New Year!

It’s not the start to the year that we were expecting, going back into full lockdown, but we can all do this together and hopefully be back together soon!

We will be uploading suggested activities, songs etc here Monday- Thursday, that you may like to do with your little ones. The ladies will be staying in touch with you all and will start checking in via a phone call (may be from a withheld number) as of next week.

We may not all be together right now but we are here for you all, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need to by emailing the school at

wldeans-ps@westlothian.org.uk

Remember to be kind to yourselves!

Christmas Parties!

The Christmas parties were a huge success this week and everyone had great fun! We danced, played games, ate party food and we even had a special video sent to us from Santa. He was kind enough to leave us all a little gift under our school Christmas tree. (Photos of the party will be posted in individual Learning Journals, if not before the holidays in January.)
