Scottish week

This week the topic in the nursery will be Robert Burns and all things Scottish which will finish on Thursday with a Burns Supper. At the Burns Supper the children will be eating Haggis (vegetarian), tatties and neeps followed by shortbread and a little drink of sugar free Irn Bru. If you would prefer your child not to have the drink please inform a member of staff when dropping your child off at nursery (milk and water will also be available as normal).

The children will also be bringing home 2 simple Scottish poems to learn. We would appreciate if you would go over these with your child at home so we can recite them at the Burns Supper of Thursday.

Last week in nursery we were focusing on the nursery routines and Golden Rules. All the children were encouraged to self serve their snack developing their fine motor skills as the used the different utensils to do so. They were also exploring volume as the served their soup and poured their drink. They are all becoming more independent at doing this.

Welcome back after Christmas!!!

Christmas seems such a long time ago!!! Hopefully everyone had a lovely time over the festive period.

As you are aware we are no longer collecting snack money in the nursery. As part of their snack money some parents had paid a small donation to the toy fund. We are keen to keep the toy fund going as it enables us to purchase new resources for the nursery. If you would like to make a small donation to this fund there will be a tub available in the nursery foyer to allow you to do so.

We have issued a questionnaire to all families for feedback on the nursery. Your views are important to us so please fill it in and hand it back. If you have misplaced it please ask for another copy. Returning the questionnaire will enter you into a prize draw with a chance to win a voucher.

All families are being asked to answer the “question of the week” by putting a gem in the appropriate tub. This weeks question is “Do you access your child’s Online Learning Journal?” Please help us by taking part and answering honestly.

PeeP is back!!!!!

PeeP sessions will be running on a Tuesday morning at 9.10am and afternoon at 2.00pm. There has been a fantastic response to the launch of PeeP and Mrs Wilson and Mrs Lindie are looking forward to welcoming you all along to these sessions.

Robert Burns Celebrations

Next week the children in the nursery will be celebrating Robert Burns. Snack next week will be traditional Scottish food. On Thursday we will be having a Burns Supper instead of free flow snack. The children can wear something Scottish or tartan that day.

Nursery Raffle

The children drew the raffle tickets for the food hampers at nursery this morning. Well done to Marley and Mary Anderson who have won the hampers. AJ won the Smarties guessing that there were 244 in the glass jar. Can you please collect your prize from the nursery at your earliest convenience. We have raised £240.79 for nursery funds. We will discuss with the children after the holiday what they think we should buy with the money.

As it is the end of term can you please ensure that your child’s pigeon hole is emptied.

Scottish Sun – Free books

We would like to thank everyone for their help in collecting the Scottish Sun free book vouchers for the nursery. We have reached and exceeded our target of 1750 vouchers and these have been sent away this morning. The extra vouchers will not be going to waste as another nursery who have not managed to achieve the target will be using them to make up their total.

On behalf of both nurseries we cannot thank you enough.

Nursery News

We had a fantastic time at our Christmas  sing-a-long. Thank you to all those that were able to join us on Thursday for the event. During the sing-a-long we were raising funds for the nursery selling raffle tickets and other Christmas items to raise funds for the nursery. We still have some raffle tickets and other items for sale if you would like to purchase them. The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday morning.

Our leaning this week

Some of the morning children had a visit to the wood this week. We had to wrap up as it was cold and a bit damp but this didn’t hinder our adventures in the least. Firstly we put up the windbreak to make an area for us to use as a toilet.

We made a den using a tarpaulin, twigs and branches. We were able to use this as a shelter when the rain was on.

We had great fun playing Hide and Seek finding lots of different places to hide. We also enjoyed climbing the trees and Leighton found a log which he sat on stating “Look a seat”.

In the nursery we have been making rockets in the art area. We have been looking at different ways in which we can use paper to make 3D models of rockets. We enjoyed decorating the rockets and watching them “blast off into space” once we had finished.

   t

We have been writing some letters to Santa, we hope that he sends us a reply back.

We have been continuing to practice for our Christmas Sing-a-long next Wednesday and are getting really good, we hope that the parents and carers have been practising as well.

What a busy week!!!

This week there have been lots of different things going on in the nursery.

On Tuesday some of the afternoon children went out into the woods with Mrs Whatcott and Mrs Mitchison. They had lots of fun exploring the area, climbing the trees, making dens, listening to a story and eating snack. Some of the morning children will be doing this next Tuesday we look forward to seeing their photographs.

s In the nursery we have started to make some Christmas decorations that we will be selling at our Sing-a-Long in December. The children were using their fine motor skills as they rolled out the salt dough and used the cutters to cut out the shapes. After they had been baked in the oven the children decorated them using coloured glitter. Hopefully some of the parents will buy them.

We were being little scientists again this week and have been trying to launch our own rockets in the nursery garden. We used vinegar and baking soda to create a reaction in the bottle and waited for the “blast off”. Unfortunately like other scientists we were not successful but we had lots of fun trying. We will look at others ways we can make rockets next week and maybe try again to launch our own.
