Sunflowers

We have been busy painting in the nursery. We have been doing life paintings of sunflowers using the vase of flowers as the stimuli. We have been talking about the different colours that were on the flowers and what the names of the different parts of the flowers were called. We are going to display our paintings in the nursery art gallery.

We also used different resources to make sunflowers. We have used pipe cleaners for the stems, green leaves were attached to the stem and tissue paper used to make the flowers heads.

Construction in the garden.

In  the nursery garden the children have been busy with construction.

In the mud we have been creating pathways for the water to flow  moving it from one area of the mud pit to another. By digging channels in the mud  the water was redirected and channels were closed off by the creating of dams to stop the water flow.

The foam building bricks have been used effectively to build towers and bridges. The girls happily worked together to create their bridge changing the direction of the brick by placing them long and short ways. Once they were finished they walked along their bridge and were happy to allow others to use their bridge. Another child used the blocks to build a tower.

Water fun!!!

The children have had lots of fun today at nursery. We have been playing with water pistols. They thought it was funny soaking Miss Kitchin as she was filling up the water balloons. Some of the children were using the water pistols to wash the windows.

We used hula hoops as targets for the water balloons. The children all stood behind the red line and threw the water balloons into the different sized hoops. We were able to identify the hoops by size and talked about the distance we had thrown them We recorded on the chalk board which hoop the water balloon had ‘splatted’ in.

After all the fun and excitement we enjoyed cooling off in the paddling pools on the cool grass.

Lets hope we get more nice weather where we can enjoy more days like this at Deans ELC!!!

Sun cream

Due to the amber weather warning of very high temperatures over the next few days we are asking parents/carers to apply sun cream to their child prior to them coming to nursery and to also supply us with sun cream, in their bag, with their names on the bottle. We are unable to apply sun cream to any child who does not provide their own cream and/or has not had the relevant permissions signed. New permission slips are available from tomorrow morning if you require one. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Change to lunch provision

Nursery Lunches

Over the school summer holidays there will be a change to the lunch provision for all West Lothian Nursery children. During this time the children will not have access to a hot school meal in the mornings and lunches will not be pre-ordered using the ipay system. When you are dropping of your child in the morning your child will be given the choice of sandwiches available that day and they will be provided with a lunch bag, as they currently do on a Friday morning. This will still be eaten in the nursery prior to them leaving nursery at the normal pick up times. Normal arrangements will resume at the start of the new school session, 16th August 2022, with you continuing to use the ipay system to pre-order your child’s lunches.

At the start of the new school session all afternoon children will have the option of a hot lunch which will be served to them between 12.45 and 1pm in the dining hall. This is a change in time as well due to food hygiene regulations. There is only a short window of time that we are able to serve these lunches, sandwiches will also be available to pre order if your child would prefer these to a hot meal. You will need to order your child’s lunch using the ipay system so that the catering staff know how many lunches to prepare. As your child will be having a lunch early in the session they probably will not require a lunch prior to coming to nursery.

From August we will no longer be able to order for your child, all ordering must be done by the parents/carers using the ipay system that you have received login details for. If you need any help accessing this please contact the school office who will be happy to assist.

Summer holiday provision.

As you are aware Deans ELC will remain open over the summer holidays for the children to attend. West Lothian Council have asked that we send out a survey to all parents/carers to gather information on whether you will be using the service over the period of the school summer holidays.

This is the link to the survey

https://forms.office.com/r/rWPEHVDgAF

Can you please respond to the survey by tomorrow evening, 03/06/2022.

Thank you.

Our adventures with Ted w/b 25/4/22

Happy Friday everyone!!

Hope you are all well and have had an amazing week, the weather has been alright hasn’t it? We have had a very busy week especially with Adventure Ted who has now made an appearance into nursery which is very exciting! Since the weather has been nice we have been out in the nursery garden engaging in planting with Miss Galbraith.

Come see some of our adventures with Ted and how the wee gardeners have been getting on.

Our adventures with Ted

Adventure Ted has made their way back into nursery and is looking to go on an adventure with our children over the weekend. As you can see, some of our wee monkeys have been luckily enough to be picked by Ted to go on an adventure with. Now, you can imagine the adventure these guys have been on from the park or the cinema which is all very exciting! Ted is always looking for an adventure so be prepared for a busy busy weekend if your wee one comes home with Ted haha!

Deans Nursery gardeners

The weather has really turned around this week which opened the opportunity for some planting. Miss Galbraith has done an amazing job of maintaining our lovely garden – we would give Dobbies a run for the money haha! The children this week have been involved in planting fruit & veg and when the have fully grown they will be delicious, so does it look like we have potentially new gardeners in town? would it surprise you? it wouldn’t surprise us with this talented lot. When you are walking around the nursery make sure to have a look and see all the hard work that is going into our amazing garden.

Well well well another week down and ready for the longish weekend, I bet we are all ready for it! We hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to and we will see you on Tuesday for another fast paced exciting week!

Has the Easter bunny been? w/b 18/4/22

Welcome back everyone!

We hope you have had an amazing time off and been very busy. We can’t wait to hear all the excitement you have been upto and also what treats the Easter bunny left you on Sunday!

Over the course of the last 2 weeks we have been quiet but very busy from visiting the park to Easter activities, it’s been very exciting.

Come hop in and see what our little Easter bunnies have been upto!

Mornings at the park

We went to the park on Friday morning for a little holiday treat. On our way there we engaged in some animal spotting, we were trying to see what we could see and also hear on our travels. It was a beautiful but cold morning and some of our brave wee souls attempted the big spider climbing apparatus and even had a go on the traditional seesaw! We also used our road safety as we were crossing some roads when getting to the park and spoke about the importance of being safe near roads.

The Easter Bunny is on the way!

Well as you can see we have been super busy taking part in some Easter activities, we made some delicious crispy cakes with Miss Copland `(they were very delicious trust me haha) and they turned out superb! We also had a Easter egg hunt and you imagine how fast the children found they chocolate – must be a super power when it comes to sweets haha.

Well first week back was a quick one but was nice to see everyone back!

Hope you have had a good week back and we have enjoyed listening to the children’s stories!

Have a nice weekend and we will see you back next week!

Stay safe!
