Respiratory\u00a0 viruses\u00a0 are\u00a0 spread\u00a0 by\u00a0 breathing\u00a0 in\u00a0 droplets\u00a0 produced\u00a0 when\u00a0 a\u00a0 person\u00a0 coughs\u00a0 or \u00a0sneezes.\u00a0 You\u00a0 can\u00a0 also\u00a0 catch\u00a0 the\u00a0 virus\u00a0 by\u00a0 touching\u00a0 the\u00a0 surfaces\u00a0 that\u00a0 the droplets\u00a0 have\u00a0 landed \u00a0on if you pick up the virus on your hands and then touch your nose or mouth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key advice for parents and carers in the home the risk of catching or spreading flu\/cold like illness can be reduced by:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Regular hand washing with liquid soap and running water<\/li>\n<li>Covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing<\/li>\n<li>Using a disposable paper tissue, disposed of immediately after use.<\/li>\n<li>You can teach your child to sneeze into the \u2018crook\u2019 of their arm rather than their hands, if they don\u2019t have a tissue. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mQINuSTP1jI\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mQINuSTP1jI<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Good general cleaning of surface that everyone touches often e.g. TV remote, light switches, door handles, toilet flushes and tap heads.<\/li>\n<li>https:\/\/www.nhsinform.scot\/illnesses-and-conditions\/infections-and-poisoning\/common-cold<\/li>\n<li>https:\/\/www.nhsinform.scot\/illnesses-and-conditions\/infections-and-poisoning\/flu<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Children should not return to school until completely well and <strong>48 hours<\/strong> after symptoms have ceased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please read the following information provided by NHS Lothian to reduce the spread of respiratory illness.
