Lendrick Muir – Day 1 – 27.2.23

We arrived at 10:15am and had an introduction and tour of the Lendrick Muir site.  After that, we went on to have our first bit of free time (we got to play football and games) and exploring the common areas.  We had our lunch which was a choice of different sandwiches that we ordered when we arrived and then set off to our first activity.

Blue and Green Group – We went and took part in Bushcraft which involved making fires in the woods (safely) and then heating up our juice in a kettle.  It even whistled!  We had a quick break and then went off to play Footgolf.  We used our orienteering skills to read the maps and find out where the holes were.  This let us see more of the Lendrick Muir Site.

Red, Orange and Yellow Groups – We first took part in Archery Tag which involved playing fun competitive games with a bow and arrow (the arrows had sponges in the end of them).  We liked wearing the safety masks, we looked like warriors.  After a short break, the inflatables got blown up and we were able to have fun on the inflatable bungee cord and wrecking ball to knock each other off our podiums.  It was lots of fun!

We made some good attempts at making our beds before dinner but some of us had to get a little bit of help when our covers got tangled!  Thankfully with a bit of time and deep breaths, we got our rooms organised in the end!

Dinner time quickly arrived and we had the choice of sausage rolls, chicken goujons or falafel burgers.  This was served with chips, beans, salad and/or coleslaw.  We all enjoyed our ice cream and strawberry sauce for our dessert!  Dinner was delicious and there were lots of clean plates and very little wasted!

After dinner we had a fun quiz night and made up some good names for our teams.  It was the ‘Gworly Pops’ group that won with an outstanding 41/45!  They won a small prize of Haribo’s which went down nicely!

Supper time came and we had a quick snack and drink before setting down in our rooms for beds.  A fantastic first day at Lendrick Muir, looking forward to more activities tomorrow!

PE Gymnastics

Today P7/6S started their new PE topic on ‘Gymnastics’.  Each week the class will carry out focused mat work to rehearse the basic shapes, link movements together and create partner and group balances.  Each week the class will also work on the large apparatus to develop rope, ladder, and vaulting skills.

Well done P7/6S!

PE – Dance

As part of their PE Dance topic, P6M will be learning a variety of dances from other cultures.  First on the list was the New Zealand ‘HAKA’.

Traditionally, the Māori people of New Zealand performed haka to display a tribe’s pride, strength and unity. The haka is commonly known as a war dance used to fire up warriors on the battlefield, but it’s also a customary way to celebrate, entertain, welcome, and challenge visiting tribes. Well done P6M!

Science – Light

It was amazing to see the results of the hard work that P6M put into this topic.

The class looked at how light travels in straight lines and then they used mirrors to change the direction of the light from a torch.

The pupils then designed and built Lego mazes putting mirrors at the corners, to reflect the light as far as they could.

The next challenge was to look at different materials and how reflected or absorbed light. P6M showed fantastic imagination and creativity when producing their shadow puppets.  They used different methods to add dramatic effects to their puppets such as coloured light lenses and playing around with opaque and translucent features. The pupils were also about to alter the size of their projected shadow by changing the distance to the light source.

Then the ultimate challenge was to split white light into the 7 colours of the visible spectrum. Guess what, they did it!!

Science – Christmas Lights

P6M took their knowledge of simple circuits to the next level when they were challenged to create a parallel circuit to power Christmas tree lights.

The number of fingers shown by the groups represents how many lights they were able to light up in their parallel circuit.

The pupils then drew Christmas trees and attached their lighting circuits!

Incredible results P6M…well done!!
