Why We Need Numbers

By Skye and Hannah

This morning we were using clipboards and following instructions. We were learning about numbers in The Hub and outside.

We were learning about why we need numbers. Here are some things we found.

Number lines help if we get stuck.

Numbers 1 – 12 on the instructions for washing hands.

A barcode tells you how much things cost.

100% recycled plastic on the bench.

Numbers on the laptops help us know which class and teacher they belong to.

1918 – 2018 on the plaque to show 100 years since the end of the war.

01506 280000 for West Lothian Council.

Gear numbers on a bike. (Ms Delaney says that makes it easier!)

7 out of 10 to see if the girls’ toilets are cleaner than the boys!

Labels for classes on the packed lunch boxes.

(Hannah has made a slideshow which is to follow.)

Welcome to The Hub

This morning, the boys and girls worked really well together to come up with how they want The Hub to look and feel. They also talked about how they would like to learn, and ways of sharing learning with their friends and family.

We had a good discussion about respecting our belongings and each other, and why it is important to keep The Hub tidy. As one of the children said, we don’t want anyone falling flat on their face!

We hope that everyone feels happy and welcome.

Here is the mind map which the children created to share and show their ideas.

Beautiful Butterflies

In The Hub, we have some new visitors this week. We have been watching the caterpillars starting to move, studied the life cycle of a butterfly and made our own stained glass window butterflies. Excellent opportunity to share our knowledge and develop our vocabulary. Updates to follow!

P2 Reading Acitvities

Good morning!

I hope that you are all enjoying being back at school as much as we are! It has been a very busy few weeks with lots of new things happening and routines.  We are delighted with how well you have all settled in and the effort and attitude that you have applied to your daily tasks.

During P1 you would have been practising reading key words and reading a book each week.  Due to the current situation we cannot send books home so we have set up an online reading account for you to access our ORT books. Please check out the PDF below and follow the instructions to access the free ebooks. There is a short test to do with an adult to figure out which stage/level is best for you – if in doubt start on stage 1. Please feel free to comment below or email the school if you have any questions.

We have also included the first 100 words on a PDF for you to practise at home. These were covered in P1. Start on the first column and progress to the next column when you know them well.

Thank you so much everyone for your super effort so far!

Miss Anderson and Mrs BP 🙂
