Lendrick Muir – Day 2 – 28.2.23

We got up, dressed, showered and down for breakfast at 8:30am.  Breakfast was delicious and we first had a choice of cereal followed by toast with jam or butter.  We washed it down with some apple or orange juice.  Everyone enjoyed the toast and asked for more.

The morning activities started at 10am and we all split into our groups to do different activities.  Activities today included King Swing, Archery, Bushcraft, Footgolf and Learning for Sustainability.

The groups who took part in King Swing loved it.  Two of us were attached to a harness and the rest of the group pulled the rope to hoist them higher into the air.  When we felt comfortable enough, we shouted to stop pulling as it had reached high enough.  One (or both) of us pulled a blue rope which released the cable and we swung from high in the air.  It was brilliant!  Lots of us smashed personal challenges and even managed to go a bit higher on the second turn!

Some groups had an Archery experience and if we’d played Archery Tag the day before, we were feeling quite confident at loading and shooting arrows!  We then played some games with the arrows and it turned into a competition!

The groups who took part in the ‘Learning for Sustainability’ first went a nature walk in the woods, looking for items around the forest floor that were interesting or unusual.  Some learning took place about the word sustainability and what it means to have a circular economy.  The instructors then gave out challenge cards to build mini villages on the forest floor with items found.  We had to think about how each village could live sustainable (food sources, business etc) and then we took a tour around every group’s village.  It was only then that disaster struck, some of the villages were threatened with a floor or landslide.  We quickly went back and built/thought about ways to defend and survive this.  It was lots of fun.

Dinner was great, we had pizza or macaroni followed by oreo cheesecake.  Everyone is enjoying the food and more clean plates.

After dinner we put on our party clothes and came downstairs for the cheesy disco.  DJ McGowan made sure all the best music was played and there were lots of party games to win sweets throughout the night.

We then had supper and went back to start packing and preparing our rooms for leaving tomorrow. Suitcases are to be dropped off before breakfast so we have lots to do!

Goodnight from Lendrick Muir!

Lendrick Muir – Day 2 – 28.2.23

Good morning from Lendrick Muir!

All the children are happy and smiling after achieving their first overnight stay at camp! They’ve had a delicious breakfast and are already thinking about what’s for lunch and dinner! It’s safe to say the food has been a hit!

The activities for the day have just started with a game of Lendrick Muir People Bingo. Outside tasks for the day will start at 10am and thankfully the weather is on our side. Activities today include king swing, archery, footgolf, buchcraft and sustainability.

Another day of fun and smiles ahead for all the children.  Look out for another blog post tonight after the cheesy disco!

Lendrick Muir – Day 1 – 27.2.23

We arrived at 10:15am and had an introduction and tour of the Lendrick Muir site.  After that, we went on to have our first bit of free time (we got to play football and games) and exploring the common areas.  We had our lunch which was a choice of different sandwiches that we ordered when we arrived and then set off to our first activity.

Blue and Green Group – We went and took part in Bushcraft which involved making fires in the woods (safely) and then heating up our juice in a kettle.  It even whistled!  We had a quick break and then went off to play Footgolf.  We used our orienteering skills to read the maps and find out where the holes were.  This let us see more of the Lendrick Muir Site.

Red, Orange and Yellow Groups – We first took part in Archery Tag which involved playing fun competitive games with a bow and arrow (the arrows had sponges in the end of them).  We liked wearing the safety masks, we looked like warriors.  After a short break, the inflatables got blown up and we were able to have fun on the inflatable bungee cord and wrecking ball to knock each other off our podiums.  It was lots of fun!

We made some good attempts at making our beds before dinner but some of us had to get a little bit of help when our covers got tangled!  Thankfully with a bit of time and deep breaths, we got our rooms organised in the end!

Dinner time quickly arrived and we had the choice of sausage rolls, chicken goujons or falafel burgers.  This was served with chips, beans, salad and/or coleslaw.  We all enjoyed our ice cream and strawberry sauce for our dessert!  Dinner was delicious and there were lots of clean plates and very little wasted!

After dinner we had a fun quiz night and made up some good names for our teams.  It was the ‘Gworly Pops’ group that won with an outstanding 41/45!  They won a small prize of Haribo’s which went down nicely!

Supper time came and we had a quick snack and drink before setting down in our rooms for beds.  A fantastic first day at Lendrick Muir, looking forward to more activities tomorrow!

PE Gymnastics

Today P7/6S started their new PE topic on ‘Gymnastics’.  Each week the class will carry out focused mat work to rehearse the basic shapes, link movements together and create partner and group balances.  Each week the class will also work on the large apparatus to develop rope, ladder, and vaulting skills.

Well done P7/6S!
