P2a Plea!

As you will hopefully be aware our topic this term is Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. We are looking to create some items over the next few week using items that are unwanted. If possible could you send in any old material that you do not need. E.g. Old duvet covers, sheets etc. The pupils have suggested that old material could be used to make dress up capes. The children have designed them and so we now need to collect old material and items to create them. If you can help us out P2a would be very appreciative.

Also if you have any junk items forthe bin please could you send these in too for our technology activities.

Many thanks! 😊

West Lothian Schools Gymnastics Competition

A huge well done to the four children who represented Uphall Primary School at the West Lothian Schools Gymnastics Competition today.

The whole team achieved Gold and received a certificate and large trophy to be displayed in the school.  They also received individual Gold medals.  One P5 pupil also achieved Silver in the individual competition.

Well done!

Breastfeeding Friendly Nursery

Uphall Nursery are currently working towards gaining a certificate of achievement to be classed as “Breastfeeding Friendly” by West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership.

Recently we have been focusing on how we can promote a breastfeeding friendly culture in our nursery.  Our staff have received training and we have written a breastfeeding policy for the nursery.  It is known that breastfeeding can have enormous benefit to the health of both the mother and the child.  However,  as well as “knowing the benefits”, we know that supportive environments are needed to enable and support breastfeeding.

At Uphall Nursery we:

  • Use positive and culturally appropriate images of breastfeeding
  • Avoid materials which promote artificial feeding
  • Provide appropriate education and training for staff to enable them to promote, protect and support breastfeeding
  • Increase awareness of sources of support and information for breastfeeding families
  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere for breastfeeding families and to encourage breastfeeding in the public areas of the establishment
  • Support informed choice in relation to infant feeding.
