Marvelous Measurers

This week, in Primary 5, we have started working on measure.

There are loads of different things that we measure every day!

“We use volume when we measure liquids like cans of Irn Bru (330ml) and bottles of Coke (500ml).” Logan, Rebekah and Reece.

“We use length to measure things like distance and height. For example Rebekah is 1.26m and an African elephant is 3.3m” Zoe, Grace and Lewis.

“Weight is a measure of how heavy something is e.g. Fraser’s bag of crisps is 16 grams and a bag of sugar is 1kg.” Rianna, Fraser and Dylan.

Scottish Thistles

P1 have been thinking about where they live.  We know we live in a country called Scotland and that it is part of the UK.  Primary 1a talked about about some of the things we knew about Scotland and about how some things help us to recognise countries or places.

We learned that the thistle is the national Scottish flower.  Using the internet we looked at pictures of thistles and studied their features.  After we had identified the different parts of the flower we then used oil pastels to create our own art work.

Look at our creations!

Phonics fun in P1!

This week we have been revising all our sounds and practising our blending skills.

Some of the activities we did this week were: reading CVC words as fast as we could, reading sentences to find out what they said so that we could draw the correct picture, adding ‘ee’ or ‘oo’ to make words and another activity was sorting out words to make sentences.

Loads of fun in our classroom!

Keep up the great work P1! 🙂

p4/5 weekly update

This week we were learning how to sequence a flip book. We had to make each piece of paper equal or it would not work. It told the story of a skeleton jumping and falling down.

We also learned how to use a handspan as a unit of measurement. We enjoyed measuring objects in the class.
