P4/5 Junk Modelling

This week we have made a good start on our models (thank you for all of your recycling materials).   In our groups we had fun designing either a chocolate machine or chocolate factory.   We then had to select suitable resources and begin construction of our models.

We will keep you up-to-date with our progress.

I’ve got my spy on you.

This week we were learning all about the Enigma code and how other codes work. One of our favourites was the PigPen Cipher. We also did the tap code and are looking at numerical and alphabetical codes too!

See if you can decipher our codes!

Can you believe that some of our codes are still around today! Ben even noticed that the tap code was in Flash!

World Book Week!

Last week we have been studying the Runaways and comic books as part of World Book Week! We’ve done loads of interesting activities about drawing superheroes, pejorative language, future stories and more!

We even did some superhero training! Look at our photos below!

Some of the books that we’re getting with our tokens are:

Star Wars
World of Norm
Animorphs
Clawed
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Diary of a Wimpy Kid

And that’s just for starters.

We’ve loved this week because we LOVE books!

The new Standard 8 classroom

The new Standard 8 classroom

Yesterday I received some photographs from Owen our partnership co-ordinator from Nanjala Primary. The new classroom is nearing completion

image[5]and  local craftsmen image[2]have completed 20 of the new desks which will make learning much easier for the Standard 8 children ( S1 high school level). The completion of this new classroom means that the children can stay at the school for another year and won’t have to walk the 6km to the nearest school with Standard 8 provision. The building was funded by local government with the Parent Committee providing the water and mortar. So far we have raised nearly £280 from our ‘Making a Mile for Malawi’ fundraising initiative to help pay for these desks. Please keep the 1p and 2p coins coming in to help us meet our £500 target.

P4/5 Book Week

This weeks blog has been written by: Eilidh & Finlay.

This week it has been world book week and we have had lots of fun!  We started the week with looking at all of the areas of the curriculum and planning our own learning.

We have listened to the full story this week which has helped us in our work.

We wanted to find out more information about the author Roald Dahl so we carried out our own research on the internet and we found out lots of interesting facts.

We worked in groups to design board games based on Roald Dahl’s book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ (Eilidh).

In art we have been learning to quill hearts for mother’s day.  The cards turned out amazing (Lily).   We also made cards by drawing around our own hands. The hand then held a bunch of flowers and we made the flowers 3d.  Also in art we designed sweetie inventing machines with lift-up flaps (Finlay).

In maths we designed chocolate bars with perimeters of 20 cm.  We also drew a lot of different nets for cubes then we built different 3d shapes using nets; these would be used to package Willy Wonka sweets.

On Thursday it was great as we dressed up as book characters (Holly).

Next week we are making model ‘Chocolate Factories’ so if you could please bring in some junk/recycling that would be fantastic.
