Moneysense Visit

Mrs Sutherland’s groups were very pleased this morning to host Cara from RBS Moneysense. She came in to talk to us about different ways of spending money, such as things we need and things we want.

We know that we

    need

money for food and clothes and a house. We would

    like to

spend money on treats like toys, games and holidays.

We learned about what we would need to buy for a pet dog and had to guess how much things might cost. We used the smartboard to look at the website of a shop in Edinburgh where Mrs Sutherland goes to buy treats, jumpers and other things for Poppy.

We asked Cara lots of sensible questions and our behaviour was wonderful according to Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Sutherland!

Here we are being busy learners. We were very happy with our goody bags which each have a little piggy bank keyring, a notebook and a great sharp pencil!

Here is some information about Moneysense.

P7 Safer Internet Day

Today was Internet Safety Day and the P7 class took part in a skype event with schools from other authorities.  The classes that were presenting at the event covered topics such as online gaming, digital security, digital literacy and the rights that apply when online. The class also took part in a quiz, discussed different digital scenarios and watched a short video about online chat and bullying.

Money, Money, Money

Last week The Cool Kids and The Fantastics started to learn about money. We shared what we already know about money. Mrs Sutherland was impressed by some of the facts we know already.

In shops there are labels to tell
you the cost or the price.

You can get money at the bank.

If something is expensive
you might not have enough money to
buy it.

You can get a loan from the bank
but you have to give the money back.

You can tell real money
from fake money by using an
invisible pen.

You get paid for coming to work.

This week we are having a visitor who is going to help us understand a little bit more about saving money, and different ways of spending money. We have our questions ready for our visitor!

We shared our learning with the children from Mrs McKay’s class, as we made up our own shops in the Rainbow Room. We played the part of shopkeepers, and we had a Teddy Bear Shop, a Book Shop and a General Shop where our customers could buy food and toys. We had to welcome our customers and talk to them about how much things cost in our shops. Here are some photographs of us being super shopkeepers with our happy customers!

P7 Learning

This week the P7 class has started a new block of writing based on the ‘Realistic Story Genre’.  They looked at good examples written by Jacqueline Wilson and Philippa Pearce and focused on character feelings.  They have also been practising their passing skills in basketball and hockey.  For topic the children have been researching their Clans and learning about Jacobite soldiers and weapons.  During Maths the children have focused on telling the time, calculating durations and working out time differences across the world.
