Off to the Bookshop. Hot Chocolate This Way!

Thanks in huge amount to wonderful Waterstones in Livingston for having our groups there on Thursday. We were made so welcome. We had a tour of the bookshop so that the children were able to find the books that they would be interested in. We have a varied selection of books now for our area libraries and for The Cool Kids and The Fantastics.

The excellent behaviour of the children was commented on by customers in the cafe. Well done!

Thanks to Mrs Parience for organising this grand day out.

Here we are in our world of books.

Library Visit

The Cool Kids and The Fantastics had a trip to Broxburn Library on Wednesday. Some of the children are already members of the library, and others had the opportunity to join. Diane showed the children how to find different books and then they settled down for a read. Here are our fantastic and cool readers!

Lendrick Muir Camp

Dear Parents/Carer,

Weather reports continue to have a yellow warning until Monday and snow showers are forecast  beyond that.

The children’s safety is paramount to us. With conditions as they are and consideration being given to the expected pupil experience, we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to postpone our trip to Lendrick Muir.

We have been in constant communication with the Lendrick Muir Centre over the past few days and are aware that they would need to adjust our programme if we were able to attend. The children may not be able to take part in the activities that we had booked. Alternative activites offered included snowman building and bread making. Although these would hopefully be activities that the children would enjoy it would have been disappointing not to be able to go gorge walking, king swing, archery etc.

We are currently looking for an alternative location later on in the term.

We have also been in contact with the bus company and have taken into consideration their recommendations about not travelling.

Please apologise to your child/children on our behalf.

P4 Snow Day Activities.

Morning Everybody. We hope that you managed to have some good World Book Day fun in the snow yesterday. Of course you can still take part in the activities suggested yesterday but if you are looking for something else here are a few suggestions. Remember to stay safe and warm in the snow!

Miss Mackay and Mr Thompson.

Topic:

  • In P4 we have been learning all about the vikings and where they come from, the cold countries of the east like Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Just like where our weather is coming from now! You could do some research about how the vikings would have kept themselves and their families warm and compare it to what you and your family are doing.

Numeracy:

  • Practise the timetables that you are happy with and challenge yourself to learn a new one. You can use the top marks site we use in class to play the tables games, halves and doubles. www.topmarks.com

Literacy:

  • Write an imaginative snow day story. Maybe your snowman could come to life and you go on an adventure together.
  • Watch newround and write a report on something you found interesting.
  • Keep writing your snow day diary to share when we come back to school.
  • Read for pleasure or listen to an audio book.
