P6S – Health and Wellbeing: Den Building

For our outdoor learning this week P6S were set the task of building a den. The den had to accommodate everyone in the group and they only had twenty minutes to complete the challenge. The class worked collaboratively in groups of four and used the equipment available. They were very proud of their achievements.

Some quotes from the class after successfully building their dens:

“Good team work”
“We worked hard until we completed the task and we were proud of ourselves”
“Good at helping each other”
“We worked well together”
“We were shocked with how quickly we made it in the time limit”
“We got it finished on time”
“We did a great job as the den fitted all of us and we worked well”
“We got our den finished quickly and we had time to enjoy it”
“We did a really good job”
“We finished fast and had time to play and enjoy”

P6S – Building Instructions for a Better World

This week P6S participated in the Lego Build the Change workshop entitled Building Instructions for a Better World.

The LEGO Group will be at a very special environmental event in November this year and they want to use the event to get children’s thoughts, dreams and ideas in front of important people. Leaders from around the world will meet this November at the COP26 conference in Glasgow, UK to discuss and make decisions about how best to protect our planet from the effects of climate change. The LEGO Group want to make sure that children also have their voices heard at this key event: after all, they are among the people most affected by the decisions being made.

The Lego group will be present in Glasgow from 1-12 November 2021, running hands-on Learning through Play activities and events and showcasing children’s ideas for a better future. They will also be creating a booklet called Building Instructions for a Better World to present to decision makers and other attendees at the conference. It will include simple instructions to world leaders from children around the world about what to do about the impending climate emergency and that is where we come in!

The class learned about the COP26 conference that is being held in Glasgow and who will be attending from around the world. They investigated the importance of the world being balanced and about climate change before splitting into 4 small groups to identify three important instructions for our world leaders. The groups then merged into 2 larger groups and shared their instructions before deciding on the top three statements. These statements were then shared with the class and the class voted on the top 3 that were to be sent to the Lego group and shared at the conference.

Well done to everyone who participated!

P6S Noun Hunt

Last week P6S enjoyed participating in an outdoor noun hunt. They worked with a partner to identify nouns in the playground. They were then able to sort the nouns into proper or common nouns and ensure all proper nouns started with a capital letter. Well done P6!
