Trip To Scotland Street School

This past Thursday, Primary 5 went on a trip through time to visit the World War 2 classroom at Scotland Street School, Glasgow. They got a bit of a fright when their teacher seemed to be taken over by the spirit of some past ancestor and taught them as if they were in the war!

Here’s what they had to say about it:

“The teachers were very strict.” – Nicole and Ross

“You weren’t allowed to write with your left hand!” – Ben and Logan

“We had to write with a nibbed pen and an ink well.” – Eve and Sophie-Lee

“We were very scared of the teacher from the past…” – Georgia and Rhianna

“The work we had to do was very hard. How mean!” – Alex and Marcelina

“There were separate playgrounds for the boys and girls! And they couldn’t even sit next to each other!!!” – Elle and Katie

“We thought it was a lovely trip.” – Rianna and Zoe.

“The uniforms were different and the teachers were mean!” – Grace and Ava

“I got given the cane for talking and giggling. Ten of the best!” – Dylan

“Most of us got given lines to write at home because we weren’t fast enough or made a mistake!” – Lewis

“Some people became the dunce of the class because they were misbehaving.” – Calum

“It was nothing like an ordinary day!” – Fraser, Rebekah and Mayson.

“The desks lifted up to reveal a compartment. We would have kept our jotters and pencil cases there” – Stuart and Reece (Mr. Hewitt would have kept sweets and comics! We think he would have been given the belt!).

Here are some photos from our trip:

This is the boys lining up with hands on shoulders outside the class. That’s something we even do now!

Mr Hewitt (Or Miss Trunchbull the Second, we couldn’t work it out!) explained the rules of the class to us while we shook in our boots.

One of us had been talking out of turn, so he became the dunce of the class standing in the corner while we worked.

Working with nibbed pens was hard! We kept getting blots on the pages!

All in all we had a really fun time! We were exhausted at the end!!!

London! Paris! Milan! Uphall!

We are currently looking at the wonderful world of fashion, and how it can be representative of someone’s personality. We started off designing celebrities, such as Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Adele, Daniel Radcliff and Jennifer Aniston, and, this week, we’re moving on to ourselves! There are some crazy fashions out there, and P5 is no exception. What do you think of our High Fashion designs?
