P2/3 Friday 5th June 2020 – Literacy – Review a song and Problem Solving – Challenges

Friday 5th June 2020

Good morning P2/3!  Did anyone take part in the Samba challenge?  I hope you had fun.  Remember to share your pictures/videos with us.

Today we are going to choose our favourite song and write a review about it.

Writing:

L.I: To write a musical review

Choose your favourite piece of music and write a review about it. Remember to write in clear, full sentences with capital letters and full stops. If you are being expressive include an exclamation mark!

Include:

-Artist name and title of song

-Why you like the piece (remember to use ‘because’ to explain why)

– What instruments you can hear

– How it makes you feel

– Would you recommend it to a friend?

– Some fun facts about your chosen band/artist

Here is my example:

My favourite song is ‘Can’t stop the feeling’ by Justin Timberlake.  I like this song because it reminds me of Sophie’s dance show, car journeys with Sophie and watching Trolls.  In the song, I can hear singing, drums, electronics and clapping.  I feel happy when I listen to this song and I can’t help dancing along to it.  If you like Justin Timberlake or if you like upbeat songs that you can dance to then I think you would enjoy this song.  The song is the official song for the movie Trolls, which I love watching with Sophie and Phoebe!  Did you know Justin Timberlake is the voice of the character Branch?

P2/3 Thursday 4th June 2020 – Literacy – Rhyming words and Maths – Fractions

Thursday 4th June 2020

Literacy – listening to, and reading, rhyming words

You’re all working very hard and I’m sure you’re looking forward to making some Samba music this evening.

Listening/reading:

L.I: To recognise rhyming words

Listen to the traditional song, Katie Bairdie.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before.  Listen specifically for the rhyming words.  Can you discuss the rhyming words with someone at home?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKQwbV-hZHw

Now read the lyrics for the song.  Can you read the rhyming words?  If you can, print out the example and circle the rhyming words. If, like me, you don’t have a printer at home, just write the matching rhyming words on paper or in your jotter. Katie Bairdie lyrics

Remember, rhyming words usually appear at the end of a line.  They aren’t always spelled the same but they sound the same.  Here is an example:

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

Who kicks and stamps and thinks he’s cool.

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

We don’t!

Maths:

L.I: To show understanding of fractions.

In maths today, we are going to use our knowledge and understanding of ½ and ¼ to clap out musical notes.  Please also challenge yourself with a Fractions Challenge.  These are all called ‘Chilli Challenge’ and instead of Mild, Spicy, Hot they are called ‘Nice and Spicy’, ‘It’s getting hot’ and ‘Burning up’.
