Some Jolly Good Learning in Primary 1S

We have been discussing what a “title” is. We know it is the name of something we are going to read. One of the pupils suggested this as our title to share our learning with you. We have started using Jolly Phonics and that is why we think we have done some jolly good learning!

This is the news from Primary 1!

Jordan – I read Mr Men Mr Strong and it was hard to read a full page. I read the front of it.

Archie – I found it tricky to paint people and animals.

Sophie – I found it really easy to draw a snail for the “s” sound. We have been cutting out carefully.

Cassie – I know that giraffes have long necks. The dentist checked our teeth.

Esther – I found the “s” sound easy.

Fynlay – We were learning French colours with Mrs Grenfell.

Shane – We have been learning Frere Jacques and Doe a Deer with Mr Hewitt.

Logan – We wanted to do jobs in the class and we had to tell Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Frater why we would be good at them.

Lillie – We chose our ideas for Friday reward time and some of us are going to Mrs McKay’s class to play games, play with the Peppa Pig set and dancing.

As you can see, we are very busy in Primary 1. We are learning lots of different things! Mrs Sutherland is very happy with us!

Scottish Book Trust Reading Passports

With their library books today, the children in P1S were giving a Reading Passport. Hopefully they will be able to talk about this with you and be able to start keeping a note of the books they are bringing home to share with you. Some of the children were able to tell the rest of the class why they had chosen their library books today. Now we know what the words “Title” and “Author” mean. I am happy for the children to keep their passports in their book bags to be shared in class.

There is some information for parents and carers here:

https://www.readingchallenge.scot/about/parents

The Scottish Book Trust also has some good ideas to support early reading:

In the words of Dr Seuss, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Happy reading!

Look who’s here! We are listening carefully to Gary. He is telling us all about what firefighters do to keep us safe. Tonight we have to ask a grown up at home to check that we have a smoke alarm and that it is working properly. If we don’t have one, then Gary can come round with one for us.

We have lots of questions for Gary.

Mrs McKay is dressing up as a firefighter because Gary said that Mrs Sutherland is too large. She hopes he means tall !!

Please ask us about Gary’s visit because we are learning lots !

Primary 1 Literacy

It was a very exciting day in Primary 1S today as we did our very first piece of work in our new Literacy jotters. First of all we learned about the word “Literacy”. Then we talked about our favourite part of the story of The Rainbow Fish. We explained our understanding of what it means when something is a favourite, by talking about our favourite sweets, colours and our favourite teacher. (Mrs Sutherland told us who that might be!)

We hope you like our work. We walked around the class and had a look at each other’s jotters, then we each chose our favourite!
