Symmetry Treasure Hunt

As part of our learning about symmetry, we had a treasure hunt in class. We worked in groups to find things in the class that we thought might be symmetrical. Here are some of the things we found.

We also talked about egg boxes and scissors from the sounds table, the clock and the sand timer. We had a really good discussion and found lots of different things in the classroom.

We are going to have a look at home as well to see what we can find!

What’s That Coming Over The Hill? It’s a Symmetry Monster!

This week we have been learning about symmetry. We have played smartboard games and coloured and completed our own patterns and designs to show that we understand what it means when things are symmetrical.

Logan’s mummy came in this morning to help us with our symmetry monsters. Can you see how we have made these? If you look very closely and carefully, you will see who has made them even if there is not a name written!

We had great discussions when we were cutting out and sticking our monsters! We understood why they all look different – do you know why that would be?

The Daily Mile in Primary 1

Here we are getting ready for and then taking part in our daily mile challenge. The older boys and girls are doing this and we think we can do it too!

We have talked about different ways of moving – we can walk, jog, run, skip, hop and even march. We can chat to our running buddies when we are outside, and if we are lucky our running buddy might be one of our teachers!

There is some information about the daily mile here: The Daily Mile

We enjoyed being out in the fresh air. Mrs Sutherland and Mrs McKay were a bit windswept afterwards!!

A Mystery and a Challenge

There was a visitor in the Primary 1 classroom at lunchtime. We had no idea who it was, but some of us thought we heard footsteps and a door closing.

The visitor left us a letter on very , very old crumpled paper.

We have a mission! We have to help Archie the Archeologist find out all that we can about dinosaurs as he has forgotten his notebooks!

We know lots of dinosaur facts already, such as that they are extinct. This means that we don’t need to worry about finding a real one in the class! We know that some had long necks and some had spikes to protect them. We are going to find out lots more to help Archie!
