Money, Money, Money

Last week The Cool Kids and The Fantastics started to learn about money. We shared what we already know about money. Mrs Sutherland was impressed by some of the facts we know already.

In shops there are labels to tell
you the cost or the price.

You can get money at the bank.

If something is expensive
you might not have enough money to
buy it.

You can get a loan from the bank
but you have to give the money back.

You can tell real money
from fake money by using an
invisible pen.

You get paid for coming to work.

This week we are having a visitor who is going to help us understand a little bit more about saving money, and different ways of spending money. We have our questions ready for our visitor!

We shared our learning with the children from Mrs McKay’s class, as we made up our own shops in the Rainbow Room. We played the part of shopkeepers, and we had a Teddy Bear Shop, a Book Shop and a General Shop where our customers could buy food and toys. We had to welcome our customers and talk to them about how much things cost in our shops. Here are some photographs of us being super shopkeepers with our happy customers!

Celebrating Robert Burns with The Cool Kids and The Fantastics

We have been very busy in The Cool Kids and The Fantastics during the last two weeks! The children have been learning about Robert Burns and planned a small celebration for 25th January.

The highlight was making shortbread with Mrs Stevenson, and I have to say that they made a great job of this! The children learned lots of new vocabulary to do with following instructions (a recipe), measuring and using different utensils – sieve, rolling pin, baking tray.

The children each chose a guest to invite along and they were excellent hosts. We talked about how to offer drinks and food to the friend they had invited. Here are some words used by the children to describe the shortbread – “delicious”, “really tasty”, “awesome”.

Mrs Stevenson and I are really proud of the children – this was something new for them and I think that you can see from the pictures how much they and their guests enjoyed their morning!

Rainbow Room Christmas Party

Mrs Kinnear had a wonderful time this morning with the children from the Rainbow Room. There were games of Pass the Parcel, Christmas Corners and a dancing competition won by Craig!

Thanks to all of the parents and carers who came along for a cup of tea or coffee.

The children were all delighted to receive a Christmas stocking with their initial on it, which had been crocheted by Mrs Kinnear’s sister.

Merry Christmas from the Rainbow Room.

Christmas Craft

This morning The Fantastics and The Cool Kids made cards and tree decorations. We needed to listen to the teacher and follow the instructions. We had to count out how many of each thing we needed. We listened to Christmas music and the Cool Kids played gingerbread man counting games on the smartboard as well.

Mikey also told his group about The Waggy Dog Project which sounds really exciting!

Festive Cheer at Uphall Primary!

Well done to everyone for a great festive effort this morning. It was wonderful to see everyone in their Christmas jumpers and accessories.

Highlights were the festive fashion show and Mrs Kinnear leading Miss Anderson and the P7 dancers in The Twelve Days of Christmas. We even had some crackers!

Here we are looking fantastically festive!
