The Cool Kids and The Fantastics had a trip to Broxburn Library on Wednesday. Some of the children are already members of the library, and others had the opportunity to join. Diane showed the children how to find different books and then they settled down for a read. Here are our fantastic and cool readers!

Happy World Book Day!
Let’s make the most of World Book Day being a snow day!
What are you going to read today? Who are you going to read with? Where are you going to read?
I would love to see what books you have been reading – please come and see me when we get back to school, and bring your books with you. I want to hear all about them.
What did you like about the book? Who was your favourite character? Was there someone in the book you didn’t like, and if so, why did you not like that person? Would you change the ending of the book?
Could you set up a library or a book shop at home and have some customers? Some of us did that in school last week, so think about how to describe books, and ask questions about them.
Can you redesign the front cover? For example, I have been reading a book about Mindfulness, and I think my new book cover for that would show Poppy lying in front of the fire as she is looking very calm and relaxed at the moment!
Here is the link to the World Book Day website which might give you some more ideas.
Enjoy your book activities, and I am looking forward to hearing about them when we get back to school.
Keep on Reading!
It is very, very snowy here in Edinburgh boys and girls!
I thought you might like to try some of the activities for World Book Day.
There are some great ideas here :
One of the ideas is to read to your pet. I have tried this with Poppy and I think she quite enjoyed it!
You might like to try this as well, if you have a printer. I used to love getting Book Tokens as presents when I was your age.
Can you make a snow mind map showing some describing words or things to do in the snow?
Hopefully we will be back at school soon and you can show me what you have been up to.
Keep warm and safe, and happy reading.

Getting Ready for World Book Day
Today we have been learning about books! Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Stevenson brought in their favourite books. Mrs Sutherland showed us a book on how to look after babies, which she read lots when her children were little. Mrs Stevenson brought in her daughters’ books which we recognised as they included Diary of a Wimpy Kid. She also brought in a book about Romans which we know is a fact book, or non fiction.
Next week we have two trips to look forward to. We are going to Broxburn Library, so to prepare for this, Mrs Stevenson pretended to be a librarian and we had to ask to borrow books from her!
We are also going to Waterstones in Livingston, and we will be able to buy books there for our school. Mrs Patience has organised for us to have a drink of hot chocolate too. We have looked at photographs of Waterstones so that we know what to expect when we get there.
Mrs Sutherland likes the look of one of the books here so she is going to take some money to spend.
Broxburn Library have some events on next week – details here. There is a party and a treasure hunt!
Updates from next week to follow.
Here is some information we have shared about what is the same and what is different about book shops and libraries.
Happy reading everyone!
Moneysense Visit
Mrs Sutherland’s groups were very pleased this morning to host Cara from RBS Moneysense. She came in to talk to us about different ways of spending money, such as things we need and things we want.
We know that we
-
need
money for food and clothes and a house. We would
-
like to
spend money on treats like toys, games and holidays.
We learned about what we would need to buy for a pet dog and had to guess how much things might cost. We used the smartboard to look at the website of a shop in Edinburgh where Mrs Sutherland goes to buy treats, jumpers and other things for Poppy.
We asked Cara lots of sensible questions and our behaviour was wonderful according to Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Sutherland!
Here we are being busy learners. We were very happy with our goody bags which each have a little piggy bank keyring, a notebook and a great sharp pencil!
Here is some information about Moneysense.
