P2/3 Wednesday 13th May – Literacy (invitation)

 Wednesday 13th May 2020

Writing an invitation

Hello!  I hope you all had a lovely weekend and you’re enjoying Art Week so far.  This week, as you know, we are working towards hosting an online art gallery on Friday.  You can tweet or e-mail pictures of your work (by Thursday please) and we will add them to the gallery for review.

Literacy lessons at a glance:

Today – invitation writing

Tomorrow – reading comprehension/reading for information (*remember to send your work)

Friday – writing a fact file (about an artist) and reviewing work in an online gallery

Every day – The Daily Draw

Today, use the invitation from your teachers to write your own invitation for your family or friends.  You could print the template or you could write your own invitation on a piece of paper or card, or in your jotter.  Share pictures of your work via Twitter or by e-mail, or comment on the school blog.

You can also choose any of the options on the art grids to complete.  I’d be interested to know what you’ve found interesting and if you’ve learned anything new. So far, at home, we’ve looked at shape, colour and pattern.

VE Day – 8 May 2020

Friday 8 May marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marked the end of the Second World War.  VE Day was commemorated in various ways, including street parties and the production of special cups.  If you can, design a VE Day cup (either print out this template, use craft paint on a real cup or draw your own cup).  You could also make bunting.  If anyone is celebrating in any way, we’d love to know about it!

Challenge – read and answer the questions the design on the teacup.

While the Coronavirus outbreak has drastically altered plans for the day there are still ways you can safely mark the event from your home.  There will be a two-minute silence at 11am. All staff and families are invited to observe this.  Visit the VE Day website for some suggestions:

Thank you,
