Literacy – creating lists

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend and money week is keeping you busy.  Any work you’d like to share this week can be done through the school blog, twitter pages or by e-mailing the school.

For literacy lessons Wednesday – Friday this week, we will be learning about maths through stories.

Today – Reading Supermarket Zoo and creating lists

Tomorrow – Reading Max and Ruby, Bunny Money and writing a personal story

Friday – Reading Cat in the Hat and writing money facts

Every day – The Daily Draw

Today, listen to Supermarket Zoo by Caryl Hart and Ed Eaves.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmzigl6L8co

Answer the following questions by telling someone your answers or by writing them down in your jotter/on paper/use the template.

  1. How many monkeys, giraffes and parrots does mum and Albie buy at the supermarket?  Add up the total.
  2. If you were Albie, what would you have bought at the supermarket? Why?  (use ‘because’ to explain).
  3. If I were Albie’s mum and I used headings on my shopping list, I’d have monkeys, giraffes, lizards, tortoises, lions and parrots under the ANIMALS heading; and I’d have hay, lion food, vegetables, fruits and nuts under the FOOD heading.
  4. Write a shopping list of things you would like from the shops. Can you write the price for each items (real or made up) and add up your total?

*   Challenge: Can you use headings and sub-headings to group items on your list?  You might         want to use TOYS, FOOD, DRINK, SCHOOL STUFF as headings for your items.

Well done for your hard work and creativity this week.  We love all the work sent to us and have included a few pieces from everyone who sent in work to our digital video.

Can you spot your work?  Doesn’t it look great!

What do you think of your friends’ work?  Maybe you can review their work?  Miss Anderson and I have snuck in some of our family drawings, paintings and photographs too!

Enjoy the video and happy weekend!

P2/3 Friday 15th May – Literacy (writing a fact file)

Friday 15th May 2020 – Literacy

LI – Write a fact file

SC – Include key facts about an artist (at least 3)

Thanks to everyone who shared their art work with us this week.  We are very impressed with your hard work and delighted with your creativity!  We are preparing a digital gallery to showcase your learning which will be available to view on the school blog from 12 noon.  Miss Anderson and I have added our own art work too.  Lots of fun had by all this week!  You could even review a friend’s art work or ask someone at home to give you a review about your work.

Yesterday you answered questions about the artist, Frida Kahlo.  We’re pleased with the feedback so far and glad you are liking the format of the questionnaire.  Hopefully you have managed to research some of the other artists mentioned in the grids.  If you haven’t done so already, please choose one and write a short fact file about them (or choose a different artist altogether).  Read this first then use the template (or your own layout on paper or in your jotter) to write your own fact file.  Here is an example taken from the information about Frida Kahlo.  :

P2/3 Thursday 14th May – Literacy (reading)

Thursday 30th April 2020

Frida Kahlo reading comprehension

Good morning and well done to those of you who shared your art work so far.  We’ve enjoyed looking at your lovely creations and we’re pleased to see some of you have also started writing your own invitations for Friday’s art gallery.

Today, read the information passage about one of my favourite artists, Frida Kahlo.  Then use the questionnaire to answer some questions about the artist. This will help tomorrow when we look at writing a short fact file for one of the artists on the weekly grid (or you can choose to write about a different artists if you’d prefer).

You can also continue to choose any of the options on the art grids to complete.  So far, at home, we’ve looked at Paul Klee and Steven Brown, and later today we’re hoping to look at Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Bridget Riley.  I can recommend wearing an art top or apron!
