Tuesday 12th May P3 Home Learning

Tuesday

A quick reminder that this is Art week and we are working towards creating your own at home Art gallery!

  1. Complete one activity from the Reading/ Phonics carousel Spelling phonicsreading carousel
  2. Literacy- L.I. To research your chosen artist

Chose an artist whose work you like and do some online research about them. You can chose whoever you’d like! Remember you should only be looking on the internet with an adult and use Kids Rex as your search engine because this is safer https://www.alarms.org/kidrex/

Write notes about your chosen artist under sub-headings- you might want to use the ones from the WAGOLL ‘About’, ‘Career’, ‘Famous Work’. Or you can make up your own sub-titles. Remember to group similar information as you will be writing this up into paragraphs. Collect enough notes for at least 2-3 paragraphs of writing.

3. Maths- lots of Art Work uses symmetry. Remember symmetry means a mirror reflection.

L.I. To find lines of symmetry

Can you spot the symmetry in these pieces of Art? How many lines of symmetry can you see?

Task: complete the symmetrical patterns here: t-n-1281-symmetry-activity-sheet-_ver_3

Or find the lines of symmetry in these shapes: t2-m-935-investigating-lines-of-symmetry-activity-sheet-_ver_3 (1)

Or if you can’t print these out you could draw them out and then complete.

OR look around your house and outside for examples of symmetry (there are LOADS- especially in nature)- draw a picture of them in your jotter and identify the lines of symmetry!

Afternoon Activity: Try to copy a famous piece of Art work from your chosen artist.

Literacy

L.I. To identify the key features of a WAGOLL.

This week you will be writing a fact-file about a chosen a chosen artist. You can choose whoever you would like!

Have a look at this WAGOLL, it is a fact-file about the famous Scottish artist Stephen Brown.

What do you notice about it? Can you pick out the key features?

Take a closer look here: cfe2-e-310-scottish-artist-steven-brown-differentiated-reading-comprehension-activity-english_ver_6 (1)

It has a title- can you find it?

Sub-titles- can you identify those?

Facts about his early life- where he was born/where he went to school/his family etc!

Facts about his life as an artist/ what type of art he makes.

Facts about his most famous painting.

A range of sentence openers- can you spot them?

This is the kind of piece of writing I would like you to do!

Maths :L.I. To identify 2D shapes

Remind yourself of the names of these 2D shapes (2D means flat). Can you identify their properties (how many sides, how many corners)? Then go on a shape hunt around your house. How many shapes can you find?

What shapes can you recognise in Kandinsky’s famous painting? Can you find another artist who uses recognisable shapes in their work?

Friday 8th May P3 home learning

Good morning P3!😁

So today is VE day, which marks 75 years since the end of fighting in World War II. For this I’d like you to…

– Do the 2 minutes silence at 11 to remember those lost their lives.

– Research VE day celebrations here https://www.veday75.org

– Find out how your family were involved in the war. Focus on one family member and write a paragraph about what they did during the war. Draw a picture of them.

– Learn the song “We’ll meet again” by Dame Vera Lynn. Find out it’s significance to VE day. Find out more here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/ve-day-dame-vera-lynn-singalong-well-meet-again-lyrics-a9496291.html%3Famp&ved=2ahUKEwj_mt2Q5aPpAhULEcAKHc3mBaEQFjAWegQIEBAB&usg=AOvVaw2hmBVXXqYFVre2woAUFGcP&ampcf=1

Make an obstacle course in your garden or house.

Predict how long you think it’ll take you to complete.

Time how long it takes you to do it. Was your prediction correct?

Who is the fastest in your household? Can you beat your time? How can you complete it more efficiently? Look in a dictionary and find out what efficiently means!

Remember be safe! Ask an adult to use things for your obstacle course.

Take a picture and post on Twitter! I’d love to see what you build!

Can you draw a picture of your dream obstacle course if you could build anything!?

Here is mine!
