Literacy – listening to, and reading, rhyming words

You’re all working very hard and I’m sure you’re looking forward to making some Samba music this evening.

Listening/reading:

L.I: To recognise rhyming words

Listen to the traditional song, Katie Bairdie.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before.  Listen specifically for the rhyming words.  Can you discuss the rhyming words with someone at home?

Now read the lyrics for the song.  Can you read the rhyming words?  If you can, print out the example and circle the rhyming words. If, like me, you don’t have a printer at home, just write the matching rhyming words on paper or in your jotter. Katie Bairdie lyrics

Remember, rhyming words usually appear at the end of a line.  They aren’t always spelled the same but they sound the same.  Here is an example:

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

Who kicks and stamps and thinks he’s cool.

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

We don’t!

The Daily Draw: Samba

Maths:

L.I: To show understanding of fractions.

In maths today, we are going to use our knowledge and understanding of ½ and ¼ to clap out musical notes.  Please also challenge yourself with a Fractions Challenge.  These are all called ‘Chilli Challenge’ and instead of Mild, Spicy, Hot they are called ‘Nice and Spicy’, ‘It’s getting hot’ and ‘Burning up’.

Musical Maths!

Fractions Challenge

 IDL:

This week we will be working towards joining in the Doorstep Samba Project on Thursday evening. You can find all the details here https://wemakemusicdoorstepsamba.weebly.com/ Today I would like you to make your own Agogo Pots https://wemakemusicdoorstepsamba.weebly.com/make-your-own-instruments.html and practise playing one of the samba rhythms on your Agogo Pots! https://wemakemusicdoorstepsamba.weebly.com/samba-rhythms.html

REMEMBER TONIGHT IS THE PERFORMANCE NIGHT, AT 8PM ON YOUR DOORSTEP!

I’D LOVE TO SEE VIDEOS OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY PLAYING THE SAMBA USING YOUR INSTRUMENTS! SHARE ON TWITTER! 😀

Any questions, please just ask.  Have fun!

Take care, Mrs BP x
