It’s been a struggle to get Hannah back on track with her school work, but think we have turned a corner. (To much fun over the Easter holidays I think).
I was wondering if there was an email address that I could use to contact yourselves as would like to ask something personal to Hannah.
I’m glad to hear you think you’ve turned a corner.

Hi Miss Anderson
Imogen starts struggling with the hot sums but I feel she benefits from when she is able to use her fingers. I have taught her how to do it with tens and units but not sure if that helped or complicated it for her, as there was a unit smaller than the one we were taking away. Is she okay to do chimney sums?
Numeracy is still definitely weaker than her literacy, so I am getting her to do the hot sums. Sometimes it clicks… I feel she needs all the practice she can get. I got numeracy posters for her but I feel she needs to do it mentally to some extent or am I asking too much of her lol?
Sorry for the long post!
Thanks x

Hi, Is she doing the spicy first then the Hot? If not try them as they build up to a progression and build on those skills. We don’t do chimney sums yet so i’d avoid doing this way at the moment. Yes using tens and ones is perfect. There are videos in the powerpoints on how to use the numberline to partition. Have you seen them? This is how i have been doing them in school along with using concrete materials of tens and ones. Activities this week are a little different so please feel free to pop back and try the sums from mild to spicy to hot again. Let me know how you get on. Please feel free to message me anytime for support. Miss Anderson 🙂
Hi, yes she works down them doing all 30 sums☺️ Okay, sorry about that. That’s how I remember learning to do sums. Yes we have been watching them all, I have even bought posters to help her. It might be that she’s just acting up for me as most kids probably are. Thank you very much, appreciate it x

No worries. Its completely different learning at home from school and we all appreciate that. In the classroom there are lots of visuals to help so its different and there’s been a break too. Don’t worry though. Every little bit helps. Im glad that she is attempting all of the sums. If she is managing to to do mild and spicy sums mentally that’s great. Using the tens and ones or numberlines to draw jumps for spicy and hot is brilliant too. Use all the visual aids you can and when she feels confident she will then bridge that knowledge to her mental strategies. I’m so happy that you are doing the sums together. Thank you for helping assist her learning at home. Keep in touch. Good Luck.
Miss Anderson 🙂
Will use everything we have☺️ That’s great, thank you for your help! X
