I will continue with our spelling advice and helpful hints today to help you support your child with spelling.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I talked a little about mnemonics and so will continue with these today.\u00a0 This is a great way to support the spelling of tricky words, words which we can find difficult to spell. I have included examples of some of these below:<\/p>\n<p>Some:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>S<\/strong>it\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>O<\/strong>n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>M<\/strong>y\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>lephant<\/p>\n<p>Come:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>C<\/strong>limb\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>O<\/strong>n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>M<\/strong>y\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>lephant<\/p>\n<p>Said:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>S<\/strong>am\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>A<\/strong>nd\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>I\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 D<\/strong>ance<\/p>\n<p>Because:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>B<\/strong>illy\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>ats\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>C<\/strong>arrots\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>A<\/strong>nd\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>U<\/strong>sually\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>S<\/strong>ome\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>ggs<\/p>\n<p>For the next set of words pretend you are at the dentist:<\/p>\n<p>You:\u00a0<b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/b><strong>Y<\/strong>ou\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>O<\/strong>pen\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>U<\/strong>p<\/p>\n<p>Our:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>O<\/strong>pen\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>U<\/strong>p\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>R<\/strong>ichard<\/p>\n<p>Your:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Y<\/strong>ou\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>O<\/strong>pen\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>U<\/strong>p\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>R<\/strong>ichard<\/p>\n<p>More mnemonics to follow tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some other strategies for supporting spelling include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does it look right?:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>Write the word on a piece of paper and see if it looks right &#8211; try it another way<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rules:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Is there a rule you know that could help?<\/p>\n<p>Ex:\u00a0 \u00a0 Skip+ing =\u00a0 Ski<strong>pp<\/strong>ing remember to double the last letter of there is a single short vowel before it when adding on your suffix<\/p>\n<p>Lok &#8211; look<strong>ed: <\/strong>remember it&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>ed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best guess:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>Have a go, underline your guess and then check it later<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow we will continue with mnemonics and move onto writing support also.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Docherty<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning everyone, I hope you are all keeping well.
