{"id":21597,"date":"2019-09-27T17:56:39","date_gmt":"2019-09-27T17:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=21597"},"modified":"2019-09-27T17:59:28","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T17:59:28","slug":"p2-1-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2019\/09\/27\/p2-1-update-2\/","title":{"rendered":"P2\/1 Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week we have started our new science topic, our first focus is <em><strong>Wonderful Water.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> We have learned about water turning into a gas when it is heated up. \u00a0We used our observational skills to watch a kettle boil and we noticed a gas coming out of the kettle as well as the water inside the kettle moving and bubbling. \u00a0At first we thought the gas coming out of the kettle was smoke but we then learned that it is actually still water but it had changed state into steam. \u00a0We have also used this topic to inspire us in art too. \u00a0We looked at a George Seurat painting of a boat on the water and we noticed that he used an art technique called pointillism (lots of dots of paint) to create his picture. \u00a0We had a go at using the technique pointillism to paint a picture of a boat on the sea. \u00a0We used a cotton bud to make the dots of paint. \u00a0The colours we used were red, blue and yellow, and learned that these were the primary colours. \u00a0We were all very proud of our pictures.<\/p>\n<p>P2 &#8211; In Numeracy we have continued to look at number sequences up to 100. \u00a0We based a lot of learning on the board game Snakes and Ladders. \u00a0This helped us to start at any number within 100 and continue to count. \u00a0We found starting on a number which we then had to bridge the decade the trickiest. \u00a0For extra practise try counting on from 59 up to 79. \u00a0In Literacy we have been using the word boost book &#8220;Billy Monsters Daymare&#8221;, the boost words are; gloomy, tiny, wail, soothe and stroke. \u00a0For a challenge try to use one of these words when you are having a conversation. \u00a0For spelling we focused on &#8216;ai&#8217; words, we used our outdoor learning time on Thursday to complete a word hunt around the playground (Mrs Currie had hidden ai words for us to find and we had to write them on our whiteboards.) \u00a0For our reading comprehension work we explored characters from our reading books and completed a profile for them.<\/p>\n<p>P1 &#8211; In Numeracy we have continued to consolidate our knowledge and understanding of the numbers to 10. \u00a0Through our play room investigations we were ordering numbered lollisticks by sticking them into play doh and we have been counting pictures and matching them to the correct numeral using peg cards. \u00a0We have also been improving our written formation of the numbers too. \u00a0At home for extra practise try writing the numbers 0 &#8211;
