{"id":19460,"date":"2018-09-14T13:20:05","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T13:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=19460"},"modified":"2018-09-14T13:20:05","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T13:20:05","slug":"primary-1b-news-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2018\/09\/14\/primary-1b-news-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary 1B news update!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In writing this week we have been using our sounds to make words.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We used pictures as a stimulus for our writing; these pictures allowed us to use lots of the sounds that we know so far.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We had to choose one of the pictures about the cat to write about.<\/p>\n<p>Some of us chose to write about a cat on a mat and some of us chose to write about a cat who had a cap.<\/p>\n<p>We are really trying to have a go and have been talking about important things to remember when writing- capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1868-e1536930428996.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19461\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1868-e1536930428996-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This week in phonics we have been learning the \u2018a\u2019 sound and the \u2018t\u2019 sound.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Connor- To say the \u2018a\u2019 sound you need to open your mouth wide.<\/p>\n<p>Can you practise saying this sound at home or forming it with some loose parts?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sophie- \u201cThis sound is black.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucy- \u201cIt is black because you make a tunnel with your mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Isla- \u201cThe vowel house is at the end of the tunnel and the \u2018a\u2019 sound lives in the basement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lily- \u201cWhen you say the \u2018t\u2019 sound you can feel it at the tip of your tongue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lewis- \u201cThe \u2018t\u2019 sound is blue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Syzmon- \u201cIt is a blue sound because your tongue has 2 blue veins\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2mVER0qQ6Q0<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Gg_KvU5oc9Q<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Maths<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week was maths week and we have completed lots of activities.<\/p>\n<p>We have been using our loose parts to measure objects in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We have been using the language- largest, smallest, larger and smaller when building houses with our blocks. We worked as a team to build the houses. We measured our structures.<\/p>\n<p>We used the language empty, full and half full when measuring water into bottles.<\/p>\n<p>We had to colour the correct amount on the picture of the cups to show Miss Boyes our understanding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We loved using this game because it let us use all of the words we have learned to use when measuring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.com\/game\/castle-measurement\/\">https:\/\/www.education.com\/game\/castle-measurement\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have been counting total amounts and asking our friends to find 5 shells, 3 pebbles or 7 pegs in the loose parts tray.<\/p>\n<p>We have also been using our loose parts to form our numbers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1869.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19462\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1869-300x276.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Science this week we have been learning how to predict and investigate ways to make sounds louder and quieter. We have been finding out where sounds come from.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We closed our eyes and listened carefully to the sounds around us.<\/p>\n<p>Miss Boyes asked us questions to encourage our thinking-<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Were they loud or quiet sounds? Were they high or low sounds? How often did you hear the sound?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We played with the musical instruments and played an imitation game, in which Miss Boyes drummed a different rhythm each time, and then we had to copy it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1874.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19463\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_1874-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Can you listen for sounds at home, what do you hear?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We have discussed the GIRFEC theme safe.
