{"id":19292,"date":"2018-09-07T08:40:04","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T08:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=19292"},"modified":"2018-09-07T14:43:37","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T14:43:37","slug":"p2-weekly-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2018\/09\/07\/p2-weekly-update\/","title":{"rendered":"P2 Weekly Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an overview of some of the learning P2 have been working on this week :<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy<\/strong> &#8211; For our Number Talks we have been looking at dot patterns, the question we are asked is <strong>&#8220;How many dots do you see?&#8221;<\/strong>, but the main focus is us describing how we have reached our answer. It is amazing to see all the different strategies that the children use to count.\u00a0 Here is an example of a Number Talks we completed this week and some of the strategies we discussed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_19141.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19295\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_19141-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now try this Number Talks at home with your child,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_19151.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19296\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2018\/09\/IMG_19151-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have also been continuing to focus on numbers to 100.\u00a0 This week we have been counting large amounts by grouping in tens and then counting in tens and adding the ones (units) at the end.\u00a0 This is leading us on to understanding more about the place value of Tens and Units.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong> &#8211; We have been starting to learn the key vocabulary words for P2 (there are 28 words that we would ideally like children to be able to read, spell and use in their daily writing by the end of P2).\u00a0 The words we have focused on this week are\u00a0<strong>but, can, came, for\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>had.\u00a0<\/strong>In our writing this week we worked hard to make sure that we use capital letters and full stops in our sentences and we all can now use I when writing a personal story.\u00a0 Next week we are going to write a set of instructions about looking after a dog (pet).\u00a0 We will use the Charlie and Lola story\u00a0<em>We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog\u00a0<\/em>as our context to our writing.\u00a0 <strong>You can have a chat at home about this to help your child be prepared for their writing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Health and Wellbeing &#8211; In PE the children have been focusing on hand eye coordination.\u00a0 They have been using bean bags and balls to practise throwing and catching.\u00a0 Just to confirm our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.\u00a0 The children have also been continuing to discuss feelings using Charlie and Lola as our focus.<\/p>\n<p>Next week it is our Feast Day Mass on Friday in school to celebrate St Ninian, so the children will be doing a lot of learning all about St Ninian&#8217;s life and work.\u00a0 It is also <em>Maths Week Scotland\u00a0<\/em>so the children will be engaging in a wide variety of practical numeracy , exciting problem solving and maths games&#8230;it is going to be lots of fun!<\/p>\n<p>Have a lovely weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Currie<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is an overview of some of the learning P2 have been working on this week : Numeracy &#8211;
