{"id":16771,"date":"2017-05-19T14:55:17","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T14:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=16771"},"modified":"2017-05-19T14:55:17","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T14:55:17","slug":"p76-news-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2017\/05\/19\/p76-news-16\/","title":{"rendered":"P7\/6 News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The children were given the following brief this week and asked to respond via handwritten letter,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>A new toy shop is due to open in your local area, called<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>&#8220;Magnificent Toys&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>As part of the marketing campaign to encourage people to come to the shop when it opens next week the manager, Thomas Jones, has sent catalogues to every local Primary School; enough for each child.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>The catalogue\u00a0is split into two sections, in the first half all the pages are pink and are filled with dolls and dressing up clothes.\u00a0 The other half the pages are blue and filled with toy cars and construction.\u00a0 There is also a picture of the inside of the shop on the front.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>In this shop, on the right hand side, all the shelves and labels are pink and there is a big sign saying \u201cToys For Girls\u201d.\u00a0 On the left hand side all the shelves and labels are blue and there is a big sign that says \u201cToys For Boys\u201d.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The children applied their learning from last week&#8217;s gender stereotype lessons to create a letter to express their opinion and persuade the manager to rethink his shop&#8217;s layout. \u00a0Well done to everyone, there was a lot of higher order thinking skills being demonstrated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">In Numeracy we have been focusing on word problems and applying our learning and skills in different contexts. \u00a0we have been trying to link these into skills for life. \u00a0This will continue into next week. \u00a0Some of us were also exploring how to express a remainder, from a division calculation, as a fraction. \u00a0This will extend next week into converting the fraction to a decimal. \u00a02D shape has also played a large role in our Maths learning this week, if you would like extra practise try this interactive game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnalberta.ca\/content\/me3us\/flash\/lessonLauncher.html?lesson=lessons\/14\/m3_14_00_x.swf\">http:\/\/www.learnalberta.ca\/content\/me3us\/flash\/lessonLauncher.html?lesson=lessons\/14\/m3_14_00_x.swf<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Our seeds are growing well and we have now started our investigation into seedlings that have been fertilised with liquid plant food versus those have not. \u00a0Stay tuned for further updates over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We were all for THE HIGH JUMP in PE this week. \u00a0It was so exciting to watch as everyone took part in a class competition. \u00a0Colin was our amazing stand out (jump out!) athlete, jumping 1m 40cm!
