{"id":11022,"date":"2016-03-11T13:46:47","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T13:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=11022"},"modified":"2016-03-11T16:59:36","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T16:59:36","slug":"p5-round-up-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2016\/03\/11\/p5-round-up-3\/","title":{"rendered":"P5 round up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week we completed our imaginative story about finding a treasure map. \u00a0The children peer assessed each others middle section of their story which they wrote last week and Mrs Docherty and I were very impressed by the childrens ability to give really constructive feedback to each other. \u00a0The class then discussed what would make a good ending to a story and we developed a success criteria from this. \u00a0The children all listened really carefully to this input and as result we had some very imaginative endings&#8230;and there was <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">not one single\u00a0<\/span><\/strong> &#8220;it was all a dream and then I woke up!&#8221; ending. \u00a0Well done everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Our data handling in Maths this week has been focusing on gathering data. \u00a0We created appropriate questions which can be asked to give us good data. \u00a0We then practised recording that data in the form of tally charts and frequency charts. \u00a0We started to learn how to transfer this data into bar graphs. \u00a0To do this we had learn &#8220;<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">what makes a good bar graph?&#8221;.<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0We used the following web link to a game to help us,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnalberta.ca\/content\/me3us\/flash\/lessonLauncher.html?lesson=lessons\/15\/m3_15_00_x.swf\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.learnalberta.ca\/content\/me3us\/flash\/lessonLauncher.html?lesson=lessons\/15\/m3_15_00_x.swf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next week we will record the answer to our above question in our Talking Book to showcase our understanding. \u00a0Also, working in trios we will create a bar graph which we can use to tell a Maths story about which fruit would be best to have on our Friday Healthy Snack tuck trolley.<\/p>\n<p>Our Maps topic has been focusing on different ways of recording information on a map and we compared <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">political, relief and road maps.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>We watched this video presentation to deepen our understanding,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gRYSSNq5GSc\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gRYSSNq5GSc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next week the class will be going to a basketball festival on Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Thomson. \u00a0On Monday they will be given a team and we will revise the rules of play. \u00a0Basketball has already been a focus for the class in PE lessons this session and we have some very strong players. \u00a0The children will require a packed lunch for this day which they will have in class before changing and making their way onto the bus. \u00a0The festival will run from 12.45pm and we will return to school for 2.45pm.<\/p>\n<p>Have a lovely weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Currie<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week we completed our imaginative story about finding a treasure map. \u00a0The children peer assessed each others middle section of their story which they wrote last week and Mrs Docherty and I were very impressed by the childrens ability to give really constructive feedback to each other. \u00a0The class then discussed what would make &hellip;
