{"id":10742,"date":"2016-02-26T14:26:02","date_gmt":"2016-02-26T14:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/?p=10742"},"modified":"2016-02-26T14:26:02","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T14:26:02","slug":"p5-mapping-the-way-for-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/2016\/02\/26\/p5-mapping-the-way-for-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"P5 mapping the way for learning."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maps, maps all around. \u00a0The children have all embraced our new topic this week with enthusiasm and interest. \u00a0They have seen how we are joining up our learning and developing skills, \u00a0in particular through our imaginative writing. \u00a0The children have been asked to write an imaginative story about finding a treasure map and then the adventure which follows. \u00a0This week the focus was the planning and introduction of the story. \u00a0We then used our learning from our Social Studies lesson about the features of a map to design and create our own treasure map to accompany our story. \u00a0Here are some of the maps which have been started,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10756\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_05981-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0598[1]\" width=\"184\" height=\"138\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_05991.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10755\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_05991-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0599[1]\" width=\"178\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_05971.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-10757 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/stniniansps\/files\/2016\/02\/IMG_05971-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0597[1]\" width=\"173\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our Success Criteria is to ensure that we include a TITLE, COMPASS and KEY. \u00a0We will then used a tea bag to create an aged staining effect on our map, tune in next week and there will be more photographs of the finished products.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for next week the children can continue to think about their adventure story and the events which will occur. \u00a0We have discussed having a &#8220;twist in the tale&#8221;, perhaps the treasure is not money, gold and jewels&#8230;it might be something completely different! \u00a0Get thinking, I can&#8217;t wait to read some of your ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Our Maths next week will involve us using measurements and scales from maps to work out distances. \u00a0 The short video clip (which can be accessed by pasting the below address into your search engine) from the BBC will help the children link their learning in class to real life application of these Maths skills.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;text-decoration: underline\">http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/education\/clips\/z3rd2hv<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Alongside this we will begin to look at different types of graphs and charts through data handling. \u00a0To prepare for this you can look at this website, you need to make it full screen and you can differentiate what level you want to work at. \u00a0This game will form part of our carousel fruity groups smart starts.
