P7 Weekly Round Up!

Weekly Highlights

In literacy this week we completed our final writing assessment and spelling assessments of 2019! The P7 group were so engaged in making stickers for our Christmas Fair enterprise task that we decided to focus on procedural writing to provide instructions about how to make stickers – we are hoping the P6/7 class will test them out to give us feedback on our efforts. We have all enjoyed the new approach to spelling and Mrs Conway and Mrs Scott have loved seeing our progress across all of our written work!

In numeracy this week we have looked at pattern and angles. We used pattern to create mandala designs as part of our Pope Francis Faith Award work – they are beautiful. We have revised angles to activate our prior knowledge this week so that we are ready to challenge ourselves in January! Perhaps you could start to look for angles in your environment and name them?

The big news of this week was our upper school election. The boys and girls were so engaged in creating their political parties, manifestos, tag lines, logos and party political broadcasts. We delivered these to the upper school on Thursday morning then opened the polling station in the upper area. Congratulations to the Coping Campaign who were the winning party – making Hannah Prime Minister and Aria Deputy Prime Minister.

Pupil Voice

Abi I LOVE the political parties!

Krystian I like doodling when we are listening to our class novel.

Harley I think my football career needs to be put aside – I’m going to work at polling stations instead!

Neve In a normal election Hannah wouldn’t have been PM, she would have been our local MP

Joshua Jeremy Corbyn had to resign because the labour party lost the election. Boris Johnson is Prime Minister.

Home Learning

This weekend if you find yourself with a spare few minutes please discuss our Human Rights Day assembly with your child – the home task this month is to think about which of the Children’s Rights is most important to you and your family and find ways that the Government is supporting this right J

P7 Weekly News

A wonderful week to be in P7 this week!

We have been completing our SNSAs this week – Scottish National Standardised Assessments. This meant our week was a bit topsy turvy in terms of timetabling, but we showed resilience and maturity in the face of these changes!

This meant a quick change of layout and silence – for the first time ever in P7! Heehee! Well done to the boys and girls who tried really hard and supported each other too 🙂

One of our most popular tasks this week was our science/food technology/literacy project – bread making!

We started with a science experiment using yeast, sugar and warm water mixed together.. we were excited to see it inflated the balloons! The key facts we learned were that yeast is dormant (sleeping) when dry – it reacts when mixed with water and releases carbon dioxide – this causes the balloon to inflate, and is what causes bread to rise.

In writing we have moved onto learning about a new genre – PROCEDURE. We discussed the features of language and the structure of a procedure before beginning our bread making session as the topic of our writing next Wednesday will be the procedure to make bread rolls!

We then moved onto our bread making! As we are P7 now, Mrs Conway was there to provide support only – in trios we worked through the recipe – measuring ingredients, following the method then setting our rolls aside to rise. Only one out of 9 groups had to remake their dough – a great success! We chose to add flavourings or finishes such as herbs or seeds or cheese.

We were really impressed with the end result!

If you would like to try it at home – the P7 pupils should be able to provide a family cooking session using the skills they have learned!

As we discussed our week some of our class wanted to share their highlights;

Joshua – I enjoyed making the rolls (this was then echoed across the class!)

Zainab – I liked the science (Ryan T – when the yeast reacts it releases carbon dioxide)

Jay – The rugby was good but I liked doing the drama in RE this week

Aleks – I think the best bit was Spanish with Mrs Reeves

Krystian – Spanish with Mrs Caskie was good too!

Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

P7 News

Another jam packed week for P7!

As we are getting to know each other better, and our new role as P7 pupils, we have completed our class charter this week – these are the promises we have made to ourselves, and each other, to help our classroom be a READY, RESPECTFUL, SAFE learning space.

Aren’t our characters and posters awesome?

We are loving our class novel – WONDER. This week we have been exploring character study tasks of the main characters. We also learned what a precept was – maybe you and your child could come up with one for your family?

Unofficial homework for next week is to have a go at playing a maths game called TENS! which is downloadable as a free app! The score to beat is 899 at the moment.

I can’t wait to meet all of the parents/carers/brothers/sisters at the Meet the Family night on Thursday 12th Septemer 6-7pm 🙂

Pupil Voice;

Brooke – Show Racism the Red Card was good because it tells you what racism actually is and its helpful to know about it. The best bit was the matching game where we had to match a face with a description.

Mirren – This week was the house captains first meeting. We are doing a house captain assembly next week and hopefully we do well!

Samuel – I enjoyed redrafting my letter for the time capsule because I am looking forward to seeing what future me thinks about it in June 2020. Hopefully it’ll come fast.

Marcella – I enjoyed reading the novel but it was sad at some times. Auggie is my favourite character.

Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
