NURSERY NEWS

What a final week to this term !!

Monday was fun filled and children were (amongst lots of other experiences) practicing their fine motor skills. Little fingers had to manipulate keys and padlocks to find which key opened which lock.

Tuesday was our Special person and Grandparents Day. The children loved singing to the audience and sharing learning experiences around the nursery.

We also said farewell to Mrs MacDonald today. We will all miss her in the nursery, but wish her all the best in her new adventures xx

Wednesday was Welly Wednesday, not only did we have snow, but an Easter egg hunt too!!

Thursday is P.E day and today we had a lesson with Miss Ford as Mr McCurdy looks after his new baby at home. I the morning we played duck duck goose and in the afternoon we sat in the nursery and practiced some stretching to the hungry caterpillar story.

and then it was Friday !!!

Block play, magnetic shapes, Easter collages and crackers for snack all finished off with a run around in the garden 🙂

HAVE A LOVELY EASTER BREAK WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND DEDICATION THIS TERM.

LOTS OF LOVE FROM THE NURSERY TEAM XX

SEE YOU ALL TUESDAY 23rd OF APRIL !! X

Nursery News

What a wonderful fun packed week we’ve had as the children learn through play. As you can see we are adopting the Frobelian principle through out the nursery setting and the children are learning importance life skills and self regulation each day. Eg:

Natural resources were found by the children to complete a number table as we discover the numbers 0-10.

Each number has the corresponding number of items beside it. The children can then identify the number and recognize that they each represent a quantity.

Block play lets them discover shape and size as well as symbolic play, as Zuzzana found as she built a house for the teddy bear.

Mathematical skills and intellectual development are observed here as they use these abilities to plan and create inner images to outer objects.

Children are exploring clay and it’s properties as they create props or shapes in the world around them.

This develops fine motor skills in preparation for writing as well as language and imagination as they discuss what they are creating with their peers.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!! If the snow appears be prepared for your child sledging and outdoor play.

Nursery News

What a great start to October in the nursery. The GIRFEC focus this month is ‘HEALTHY’, ask your child what some of our answers and ideas were.

Each week on a Monday the children make their own play dough. We have taken photos to make a new ‘how to make play dough’ book with our new friends in it. This experience lets them plan and make choices for themselves whilst building confidence and following instructions, not to mention lots of mess and fun!!  When we come in each morning we discuss the day of the week the month and the date, E wrote the date this week, she was able to write the number 2 on the paper for our wall display. A simple math experience through play.  L was learning some math too this week, she was able to identify the numbers on the frogs and match them up with the correct lily pad. The creative table has been very popular too, K made ‘a parrot’ complete with a plume of feathers on it’s head and a perch!!

Fantastic fun had by all  !!  Have a great weekend from the Nursery Team!!

End of term in P2/3

What a fantastic week it has been in Primary 2/3!  Lots of learning to finish a super term.  It was lovely to have so many parents visit during Ninian’s Natter to share the children’s learning.

We were thinking about World of Work during Ninian’s Natter and all drew a picture of our dreams for the future.  Watch out for us becoming football players, doctors, you-tubers, super heroes, artists, gymnasts, teachers, tennis players, rock stars, clothes designers, basket ball players, karate players and astronauts.  Some of our work is below.

During Ninian’s Natter we also took the opportunity to reflect on our work over the term.  You’ll spot lots of green and pink post-it notes in our jotters where we’ve highlighted the work that we’re really proud of and areas we’d like to improve.

Numbers all around

On Thursday we went outside to work on our maths skills.  We were working on number sequences to 100 (and beyond!), skip counting in twos and in tens.  Can you see our fabulous numbers in the playground?

Library visit

On Tuesday  we went to the library to choose new books.  We’re loving reading our new books and even managed to sneak in a quick visit to the park on the way back to school!

Our international education continued this week when we got an amail from our link school in Spain, CEIP Maria Immaculada. We were so excited to learn all about their carnival traditions.

Other highlights include:

Annayah, Oma and Dominic – I liked drawing Cleopatra because we learned how to be real artists.

Chloe – I liked PE because we did the bleep test and its going to make me faster in the Daily Mile.

Maya – I loved drawing numbers outside.

Alishba – I liked comparing numbers.  I like it when I make a mistake because it helps me learn more.

Maeve, Harry and Andrew – I liked decorating eggs in art and thinking about patterns and colours.

Kuba – I liked writing the letter from the Easter Bunny thanking the animals for helping save Easter. I worked with Aaron and that improved my writing.

Pawel – I liked making 3D Easter bunny baskets.

Michelle – I liked writing because I used interesting vocabulary.

James – I liked writing the letter from the Easter Bunny.  I tried hard to use connectives.

Brooke and Carly – I loved the literacy carousel because we read with partners.

Have a lovely holiday!

From P2/3, Mrs Howley and Mrs Keegan

Nursery News

Although a short week we still had a very busy one! We returned after the holiday to discover that the birds had eaten all our bird cakes!! They must have been very hungry. We had used our identification sheets to tick off the different types of birds that we had spotted in our garden. We would like to make some more bird cakes as we are sure the birds are still hungry.

Some children came in on Wednesday and were keen to make some valentines so they made lovely heart shaped flowers and talked about their families and friends that they loved.

The children have taken their learning towards the topic of shops so it was decided that we would have our own shop in the Nursery. Our AM children wanted a toy shop last week and our PM children decided on a food shop this week so we have incorporated both. We have been developing our numeracy skills by counting and recognising real coins.  Some children have been writing their own shopping lists and taking turns at being both the customer and the shopkeeper. We have all been very good at sharing all the resources. We also discussed the different types of shops that we have and what we could buy in these.  We continued this theme at the gluing table by making our own bank cads to use in the shop and also price tickets. If you or your child have any ideas that can be taken forward within this topic we would love you to post them on our visible learning wall. You can also extend this learning at home by discussing with your child about the various different types of shops and what products can be bought in them. Also looking at real coins and helping them to read the numbers on them and look at the shapes. If you are out and about at the shops with your child you can also point out the cashier, tills and scanners. We would welcome any photographs or pictures that you might have or take too.

A little reminder that both sessions will visit the library on Monday.  We seemed to have misplaced a library book called ” The monster in the woods” We would appreciate it if you wouldn’t mind having a little look at home  just in case it has been borrowed by someone. Thank you in advance.

It is the turn of our PM children to share their learning this week.

Kayla” I love playing in the shop.”

Emilie B and Liam” We made a spaceship with the big blocks”

Mark ” I made some good things at the gluing table”

Milena” I like drawing”

Shea” I love to paint pictures”

Lucas” The sand was my favourite”

Jiya” I did lots of jigsaws”

Have a lovely weekend.

Nursery News

Another busy and exciting week in Nursery. We can’t believe that we have nearly come to the end of another term!

This week we have been getting the Nursery ready for Christmas. We decorated the tree, put up some decorations and we even have our own post office where we can write our letters to Santa and weigh our parcels.  The children have also been very busy putting the finishing touches to their Art work which was then put into our Art Galleries. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along and bought the fantastic items. We have very talented children. Once we have the amount made from the galleries we will let you all know and then in the New Year we will discuss with the children which  new resources they would like for Nursery.

On Thursday our AM children attended the Achievement assembly. They all sat very well and Amelia received the award for being a kind and helpful girl in nursery. Well done Amelia.

It is the turn of our PM children to share their learning experiences this week.

Emileigh Rose, Szymon, Lily, Jenny and Robert ” We liked making things in the sparkly play dough.”

Kayla and Ethan ” We loved working at the gluing table.”

Emalie ” I made a manger from the Lego.”

Jamie and Luke ” We drew pictures at the drawing table and loved using the pencils.”

Riley ” I build lots of things with the big blocks.”

Jiya ” I love playing in the house corner.”

Just a little reminder that Tuesday is Nursery party day. The children can come to Nursery wearing their party clothes and you are invited to come back at 1030am and 230pm to see your child receive a present from Santa!

Tuesday is also the last day for handing in any P1 enrolment forms. After Tuesday the forms must be sent to pupil placement. Any questions regarding this please ask any member of the nursery team.

After all the excitement of party day the children will have a relaxing Christmas treat on Wednesday when they will get the opportunity to watch a Christmas movie with a little treat to eat.

The Nursery Team would like to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas with your families and friends.  Thank you for your continued support which is very much appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming the children back on Wednesday 4th January.

Nursery News

What an exciting and busy week we have had in Nursery! We have been very busy practising for our Nursery Nativity which takes place this Tuesday 6th at 10am and 2 pm. We are really looking forward to showing all our families our singing and drama skills. There will also be a bake sale half an hour before each performance and any donations of cakes would be greatly appreciated for these.

Our planning wall has changed to Christmas and the children have given lots of  super ideas for this. Please feel free to add any other thoughts or ideas that may come from your child at home.

On Thursday something very strange happened in both sessions. We came into Nursery to find lots of glitter on the carpet and we all wondered how this had happened! It was a very special visitor he was the Elf on the shelf! He brought along with him a very special story which we listened to. We were asked to give  him a name. The AM children decided on Sparkle and the PM children thought of Max. He explained that he was going to be in our nursery till Christmas and every day he would be watching us all to see who was being kind and he would whisper their names to the teachers who would write a letter which he would take back every night to Santa! Every day when we came into nursery we would need to look for him as he wouldn’t always be on his shelf and he might be doing something naughty! The kindness elves are his special friends. Look out for him when you are in the nursery.

Its the turn of the PM children to share their adventures with us this week.

Courtney ” I painted and used glitter.”

Mark ” I like the Artic animals”

Emalie B” I like drawing pictures at the drawing table.”

Kayla ” I made a bed in the brick area.”

Emilie M ” I like playing in the house area and looking after baby Jesus.”

Scott ” I like the trains”

Riley ” I helped make Christmas decorations.”

As well as our Nativity plays on Tuesday we have our Christmas Art Galleries on Thursday 15th at 230pm and Friday 16th December at 1030am where you will get the opportunity to buy your child’s special and individual Christmas art. Any money raised for this will go towards purchasing new nursery resources.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!

The Nursery Team.

P1M Weekly News

We have been lending a helping hand this week. Can you remember one of the letters we received from Santa asking us to become honorary elves and help him prepare for Christmas in his workshop. So… meet the P1M elves…

20161122_142405

We have been helping Santa through our Play: Plan, Do, Review sessions. Read on to find out about how we have been helping Santa.

Just Play?

Red: (Maths: Measurement and Pattern) Santa has needed us to help him wrap up presents. We have to estimate how much wrapping paper we need to wrap up presents, we have been very good at measuring out the correct amount of paper. Santa doesn’t have much wrapping paper though and he has needed us to design some wrapping paper. He likes his wrapping paper to have a pattern though so we must make sure we create a pattern. We also must remember to write a label on the present after we have wrapped it.

Blue: (Literacy: Writing) We MUST write our letters to Santa! How will Santa know what presents we want if we don’t write him a letter? We know how to format a letter correctly (where the address goes). After we have wrote our letter we need to put it in an envelope. We have also been learning about stamps, if we want our letter to get to Santa really quickly we know to look out for a number 1 on a stamp. It is also very important to write Santa’s name and address on the envelope before we post it in the special Santa’s postbox.

Yellow: (Literacy: Writing) Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a Christmas card! At this station we design, create and write our Christmas cards. We each have a special folder just outside our classroom, if we receive a card, the sender posts the card in our special folder. This is quite tricky as we have to try really hard to read our peers names. We love checking our folders at the end of the day to see if we have been given a card.

Green: (Maths: Patterns) Santa has been so busy that he hasn’t had time to decorate his workshop. He has asked us to make decorations for him – Christmas cracker and baubles for his tree. But remember, Santa loves patterns! We need to make sure our designs follow a pattern. We have been using a range of different materials at this station – foam shapes, pom-poms, stickers, glue, crayon, glitter – it has been a bit messy! I’m sure Santa will love his decorations!

Purple: (Literacy: Listening and Talking; Imaginative Story Telling) We have been pretending to be Santa and his friends. At this station we can make a Christmas themed mask and act out a story with our peers. It is important that we take turns and allow each other to have a turn at talking during story telling. Miss Meechan has been enjoying listening to the different stories we have created.

Orange: (Maths: Data Handling) Santa needs to know all about toys that people want this Christmas. We need to separate the toys into categories for him. We look through toy catalogues and pick out some toys and stick them into the correct category. Kerr was sorting out girls toys and boys toys. Adam and Sophie were sorting out big toys and small toys. We hope this helps Santa get ready for Christmas.

In the Christmas spirit now? This week we have started rehearsing for our nativity show! We have all been working so hard during our performances. We can’t wait to practise on the stage next week! Well done boys and girls, I have been very proud of how hard you have been working rehearsing your songs and lines.

20161121_131944

Even with all of this going on we have still squeezed in lots of other learning tasks! We are working extra hard with our addition. This week we have been working on ordering an addition number sentence. We know that the biggest number in an addition sentence always goes at the end (after the equals sign) because when you add two numbers together the total is always more. We played this game on the smart board to help us understand this concept more:

http://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/SumSense/sumadd.html

collage-2016-11-24-19_05_37

We have been working on our imaginative writing this week. Our stimulus for our writing lesson this week was this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEpiCEPkX7o

We then had to think about if we were that little girl, where we would like a bubble to take us. Stefan wanted his bubble to take him to see the Mona Lisa! Jakub wanted his bubble to take him to the dessert. Kyle wanted his bubble to take him to the sky. Ask your child where they wanted their bubble to take them?

We enjoy having learning conversations with our teacher. During this time we look at our dreams, check if we have achieved these dreams and set a new one if we need to. We also talk to Miss Meechan about what we enjoy at school and we can tell her if there is anything that is concerning us. One of our focuses for this month has been ‘achieving’. We have been self-assessing how we feel about our achievements, we keep this sheet in our special yellow folder in our classroom. Here are some of the dreams we have set this week:

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Meechan and P1M
