P7 Weekly News

Welcome back Primary 7!

What busy week we have had this week!

Buddying

Buddies have been supporting our P1 pupils on their first days of primary school this week. In addition to the P1 pupils greeting their buddies with big smiles, both the parents and staff have also commented on what a wonderful support they have been in this time of change! Well done buddies!

Prefecting

Whilst the buddies have been kept busy we have had a wee team of interim prefects making sure everything else is running smoothly – thanks to this bunch for helping the staff to keep things ticking over this week! Prefecting contracts are due back by WED 28th AUG 🙂

Feel free to follow our adventures on twitter @ https://twitter.com/mrs_conway10

See you all next week!

Welcome to P1

P1 had a wonderful first week at school! Everyone has settled in so well and have been enjoying exploring the P1 area. We have 2 classrooms in P1 – one classroom which we use for whole class teaching, this also has a few areas for us to play in. We have a play room too – this is right next door to the teaching room and we are able to play in both rooms whenever we want!

This week we have been learning the daily routines of P1 and everyone has been blown away by how quickly we are picking up these routines. One of the trickiest things we have working on are carpet spots! Can you remember what colour your carpet spot is and who do you sit beside on the carpet? Our buddies have been helping us to get ready for break time and lunch time and will continue to help us with this next week.

We have done a little bit of literacy and numeracy this week. In numeracy we have been learning about the number ‘2’. How to write this number; what 2 means; where it comes in the number system. Writing the number 2 can be a bit tricky but we are working on this by saying this rhyme to help: “half a heart says ‘I love you’, add a line, now I’ve made the number 2”. Why don’t you try drawing a love heart, rubbing out half of it and adding a line to make the number 2.

In literacy we have been working on pencil grip and pencil control using ‘letter join’ – our school handwriting scheme. We had a go at tracing the patterns and then we tried to create them on our own. If we forget how to hold our pencil correctly, we have been learning about the crocodile who nips the pencil; then we can flip it and grip it tight. Here are the patterns we have been working on this week for you to try at home.

Have a lovely weekend from Mrs Davenport and P1.

Primary 6/7 Weekly Bolg

Welcome back primary 6/7.

The first week in primary 6/7 has been exciting.

The primary 7 pupils have been spending time helping their buddies and are all doing a great job.

In PE with Mr McCurdy we played football and will be starting rugby next week.

We started our class novel, Wonder. So far we are enjoying it and looking forward to reading more. We found out that the main character has Treacher Collins Syndrome and is starting school for the first time at the age of 10.

Primary 6 had their spelling test and primary 7 had their first whole year group meeting.
Primary 7 pupils who would like to be prefects should return their contracts by Wednesday 28th August.

Today we had great fun solving clues to unlock the box! We had to use maths skills, Spanish and de coding skills to find the answers to lead us to the keys.

We wrote a letter to our future selves that we will get back at the end of the year.

Our classroom is becoming more organised and we are all settling in well.

We are all looking forward to having the best year ever!!!

P2 News

This week we have enjoyed Sports Day and Transition Morning.

It was a pleasure to watch the children during Sports Day, they displayed lovely sporting manners and behaviour.  Well done everyone.

For Transition morning the children were given the opportunity to visit their new classroom and meet their new teacher for next session.  This is a very important part of the preparation for moving on and allows the children to put into action their resilience learning as they face changes to their routines.  The children were all buzzing with excitement when they returned to class.

In class this week;

Numeracy – we have been consolidating our knowledge of missing number calculations as well as working out the answers to word problems.

Literacy – we finished all our class reading books and also looked back at our previous topic of Charlie and Lola stories.  We watched a story called “I can do everything absolutely on my own”.  In this story Lola thought that she did not need any help to do things but in the end she realised that there are some things (like playing on a seesaw) that you need help with.  We all wrote about this story in our writing jotters and linked this learning to our Building Resilience programme of work by discussing how it’s OK to ask for help and how important our Back-up Team is.

Have a lovely weekend.
