Little Explorers in P2B!

This week in P2B we have been revising our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We have shown Miss Boyes that we have remembered all of the strategies that she has taught us. We can even work out those tricky missing number calculations.

In writing we have continued to use our imagination to create fun and interesting stories. Miss Boyes gave us a story starter and we had to complete it. The story starter was
“I hadn’t seen the glittery, frosty door before.  It wasn’t there last night.  Cautiously, I turned the handle. Behind the door was…”

We all came up with fantastic ideas to carry on the story.
“Behind the door was fairy Twinkle Bell”- Katherine.
“Behind the door was Princess Zuzanna in Disneyland.”- Zuzanna.
“Behind the door was a cheeky monkey in the rainforest”-Calvin.
“Behind my door was a T-Rex.”- Andrew.

On Monday we had great fun as little explorers on our nature hunt. We went on the hunt for plants and flowers and in our trios we ticked them off once they had been found.
We even saw the ducks in the pond and one of them tried to follow us back to St. Ninian’s. We had great discussions about our local area and had lots of interesting questions to ask. A poster was spotted on our walk which had pictures to show the plants and animals we might find in our local area.

In Art we have been looking at lots of different lines. Miss Boyes asked us to draw a variety of different lines to make a pattern. We drew wavy lines, long lines, swirly lines, zig zag lines and many more.

We made some beautiful art work.

As well as our nature hunt on Monday we also took part in Judo. We took part in super fun activities and it was an exciting way to begin the week.

Today we had our last Ninian’s Natter. We reflected on our learning in term 4 and our aims. We also self-assessed our progress in Primary 2 and shared our thoughts with our peers.

Have a Lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and P2B!

A fun and exciting week in P4!

We cannot believe the summer holidays are nearly here. This has been the quickest year ever. Filled with lots of fun and laughter. This week was no exception.

We began the week with lots of hard work linked to our topic. For reading this week we focused on Nonfiction texts. We read all about Mo Farah and watched a video of him competing in the 2012 London Olympics.  We explored the different features of Nonfiction texts and read the passage very carefully to find information. We learned lots about Mo Farah.

In Art we looked at the Rio skyline. We could see the ‘Christ the Reedemer’ statue, many buildings of all different shapes and sizes and lots of mountains. We drew the Rio skyline on black paper, cut it out and placed it on top of our pastel backgrounds. This gave a super effect.

In Maths we have revised digital time using am and pm. He have a good understanding of this and becoming more and more confident with telling the time.

We were very lucky this week and got to try out Judo. It was great fun!!! We learned some good moves. Some of us are very keen to start Judo to learn more.

20160614_111102 20160614_110458 20160614_111627

On Thursday we had a super day at Murrayfield. We even met 2 rugby players who came to chat to us and answered all of our tricky questions. We played great rugby games with some coaches. That really tired us out. Then we went for lunch and a wee relax. After that we split into groups to do the tour of Murrayfield. It was fantastic. We saw lots of their trophies and where the VIPs go to watch the match. What a view! That’s where we want to sit when we go. We saw where the TV broadcaster and radio broadcasters go. Paige, Chichi and Chloe even got to be a radio broadcaster. That was tough keeping up with what was happening. We had to speak so quickly.  Our favourite part was when we got to be the players. We went into the changing rooms, even got a pep talk from the captain and then walked out onto the pitch with O Flower of Scotland playing in the background. What an amazing feeling that was. Mrs Wassell said our behaviour was excellent. So much so she has promised us extra Golden time next week.

20160616_140245Have a great weekend everyone.

Mrs W and her little Minions.

P5 are busy

Last week it was Jammin’ Fitness, this week it has been Judo.  Here are some photos of the highlights.

IMG_1003[1]IMG_1008[1]IMG_1010[1] IMG_0995[1]IMG_0414[1] IMG_0420[1] IMG_0416[1]IMG_0422[1]IMG_0426[1]

In class for our writing this week we watched a short animated film linked with the Euro 16 championship.  The children then had to turn this into a comic strip.  Our learning intention was to see the importance of sequencing a story and including enough detail for the reader to follow the story line.  The results were all super!  And hopefully the children can see making a comic strip as a good way to plan when creating an original extended story.

In Maths we completed a fun Number Hunt.  Mrs Currie put questions all around the classroom and area and the children had to find the questions and then work out the answers recording it on a sheet.  Our learning intention for this lesson was to use a calculator to help us solve the problems as well as developing our ability to interpret the word problem.  The children all worked successfully in pairs showing that they were all effective contributors as well as successful learners!

On Monday the weather held us back from completing our athletics work in PE.  So instead we played extreme dodgeball in the hall, this is a HUGE favourite with the children and I cannot believe how well their ball skills as well as team spirit has improved over the course of the session.

Well done P5.  As always I am so proud of you all.  Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Currie.
