P4/5 Weekly News

Here are some of our highlights of the week;

Louise – In PE this week we were practising races for the sports day and playing some new games. The game we played was a bit like dodgeball however was a bit more tricky. We also played with the parachute.

Abi – This week we started the ‘BYOD – bring your own device’ in our class. We used our own devices to do research for our topic and for the global goals. We also used our devices to play sumdog and some other maths games.

Krystian – In IDL this week we learned about food chains. We learned that plants and grass are called producers because they produce their own food and animals and humans are called consumers because they eat plants and other animals.

Marcella –  The class got to present their project about endangered animals. Some children did power points and some children created factfiles, poems and even created animal habitats using junk materials. We all learned lots of new facts about some endangered animals.

Lewis – In reading this week we read non-fiction passage about Rhinos and answered questions about the text.

Lukasz – In Maths we have been learning about area. We have been looking at the area of a shape using cm2. On Friday we did our big maths and clic tests.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend

Nursery News

What a great health week we have had in nursery. We enjoyed all sorts of activities and had healthy snacks.

We started off the week with trips to the park and learning some football skills. On Tuesday morning our AM children had their visit to Almondell country park where they went on a Gruffalo walk, listened for sounds of nature, made pictures from natural resources and enjoyed the park. Both sessions loved expressing themselves in the dancing and yoga activities. On Thursday the children were encouraged to bring their scooter to nursery and had great fun ‘zooming’ up and down the playground . It was great to see so many parents and carers join us for the daily mile and also the Fun run. A big thank you to Mr McCurdy for arranging such a brilliant week and also to the parents and carers who helped us on our trip and activities. We couldn’t have managed these without your support.  All the children had super fun as did the nursery staff.

Transition events continued this week with the preschoolers joining the Primary 1  pupils for the daily mile and a measuring activity.

PEEP classes with Mrs Beattie have started again with both groups learning sign language for the hello and goodbye song and being introduced to “The old woman who swallowed a fly.” Group 1 were also counting bubbles and trying to see how fast they could pop them. Group 2 were asked to draw round their hand and their parent/career’s hand and find words about their feelings.

Transition next week will be the Moving up mornings on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th.  Arrangements for both these days have been outlined in a letter given out on Thursday / Friday. If you have not received your letter please see a member of the nursery team.

There will also be menu options available on Monday for the preschoolers to choose what they would like to eat the following week at the lunchtime experience. Please note the choices depend on which particular day your child is going. These details were also included in the same letter. If you have any questions about  any of these events please ask any member of the nursery team who will  be happy to help you. We would also like to ask if anyone has the talking book at home as we are unable to locate it and some children have still to get the opportunity to take this home.

Our AM children will share their favourite Health week highlights this week.

Lucy” I liked the bus”

Christopher ” I liked the fun run”

Anna ” I liked the healthy food”

Celine” I like running the best”

Isabelle” I like the dancing”

Blake” I liked being outside with my friends”

Annabelle” I liked dancing n the playground”

We would also like to invite parents and carers to a drop in session on Wednesday 7th at 11.15 am to discuss ways in which we as a nursery can improve to make your children’s learning experiences better.  This will be held in the P7 classroom and you will get the opportunity to chat to staff and other parents over a cup of tea. Children who come along will be able to watch Trolls on the smartboard! We would love as many as possible to come along.

Just a little heads up on  some dates. Nursery sports day will be held on Wednesday 14th June at 10.00 am and 2 pm weather permitting. Nursery graduations for preschoolers only will be on Thursday 29th June at 10.00 am and 3.15pm.

For more photographs of our Health week please check out our Nursery parents Facebook page.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Nursery team.

Bag packing for Malawi

Today a group of the UN Ambassador’s went to St Margaret’s to help pack some suitcases for Malawi. This was a humbling experience as we saw many of the items which were being sent, things we all take for granted. Everyone worked really well together and checked that their cases were the right weight. The allowance was 23kg per case-not easy to achieve! Thanks to the St Margaret’s team for allowing us to help with this project, we are looking forward to hearing all the stories on their return.

Sporty P7/6

We have had a fabulous week, it has been so active and energetic!  You can see from these photos we had a wide range of activities, these show bootcamp and cricket.

In between our active lessons we did some learning about food hygiene and how microbes can cause food poisoning, we discussed how extreme heat (cooking food) and extreme cold (freezing food) can stop these from multiplying.

We then used our food technology trolley and created some delicious cheesy mash.  This involved us learning how to use the bridge grip to cut the potatoes safely. We all really enjoyed the experience and the taste!

We also learned how Edward Jenner created a vaccine for smallpox by using the cowpox virus…all very interesting if not a little yucky.

Our Star Dinner lesson was great.  We all invited a wide range of interesting people,  Mrs Currie wanted to invited J K Rowling, Jessica invited the youtuber Roman Atwood, Kornelia invited the singer Ariana Grande, Tristan invited footballer Cristiano Ronald and Freya even wanted to invite her cat!  What a super discussion we had about this!

Well done everyone for yet another fantastic health week at St Ninian’s.

Global citizenship – Comparing our 5 a day healthy eating to a child in Lesotho in Africa.

Fidget spinners – worked in pairs to read and learn more about why they were created and also designed our own symmetrical ones.

Performed verses of a poem in groups about keeping yourself clean and the parts of your body to wash.

We have also taken part in a huge range of activities; dancing, gymnastics, football training, running, cross country, inflatable fun run, cheerleading and many more.
