Teacher voice:

Another great week, the time is flying by!!!

This week we studied financial literacy connected to our Enterprise and numeracy work. Everyone had great fun learning about and creating budgets!! The pupils were not amused when they had to spend their hard earned cash on fixing washing machines and paying bills!!! I was really pleased to read about how they had got on with their budgeting task at home, almost everyone stayed within budget. We also looked at the differences between debit and credit cards.

In writing we explored issues affecting Scotland and then chose one to write a prayer about. Check out Twitter to see some examples.

We began thinking about Catholic Education Week and started by discussing what was good about our school, this then led to a discussion about what was good about a faith school. Again see Twitter for our main discussion points.

Preparation is underway for next week’s Christmas Fair – P6/7 are in charge of organising Santa’s Grotto. We have made advertisement posters and videos with the ipads, made template letters using Microsoft Word, made a Christmas postbox, sorted out  Santa’s gifts and wrote a blog post!! Phew…..

Many of the children have expressed an interest in helping me out next Thursday evening between 5.30-7pm. I will give them a time slot to allow them time to also enjoy the evening with their families. They can wear something Christmassy!!!!

A reminder for P7’s that they are going to St Margaret’s for their first Science lesson bewteen 10-12pm on Monday. They will need a small snack.

Have a great weekend – and remember to stay within budget when shopping on Black Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool to be kind was the theme of the week and this year’s focus was CHOOSE RESPECT!! Here is how we linked it to our lessons:

Wordboost – We used a powerpoint about ‘Cool to be kind’ to select our BOOST words for the week.

Writing – We were inspired by this poem, ‘If’, to think about friendships and what we would want a friend to do for us. Check out our Twitter page to see our X Factor Poetry Plenary.

Art – We had to represent the word ‘Respect’ visually in any way we chose for an upper area display.

Groupwork – We worked in teams to make posters about what we had learned about the ‘Science of Happiness’. We have been trying out some of the suggestions.

RE – We researched Saints who were great examples of showing kindness and respect to others.

Assembly – The House and Vice Captains from our class were involved in planning, preparing and delivering an assembly about this week’s theme. They did a great job and had a captive audience!

Pupil Voice:

Brooke – I liked doing the poem of friendship as I liked trying to use rhyming words.

Harley  – I liked adding and subtracting decimals this week.

Ambra – We did a friendship poem I liked it but it was challenging.

Primary 7 Weekly Blog

This week we came back to school on Tuesday for the start of term 2 . We have  started our small block of fitness for PE before we start our Christmas dancing.  We did a fitness program with Joe Wicks, it was so tiring ,it was at least 30 mins. After PE we did number talks,  we started to order decimals,   it was  a bit tricky  for some of us. We have also started our new topic, it is an enterprise topic called ”Make £5 grow”.

On Wednesday we learned lots of different skills to do with skipping to help with our fitness, for example: 180 spins, beat our high score on how long we could skip for, ect. After we went in pairs and as one of us would be skipping for thirty secs, the other would be doing bench related exercises. We also started our writing which where we had to write about the most favourite day of our life.

On Thursday we did some reading questions, from our reading books. There was ten questions that would give you 1, 2, 3 or 6 marks. You had to use evidence from the text. We also did RE, researching lots of different saints and talking about peace, justice and how to help victims of war, poverty etc. Mrs McDonald also came in for maths.

On Friday we started off our day finishing our writing. Then we did firework safety powerpoint. They were some pretty gruesome pictures but we learn to stay safe on bonfire night.

We were also very excited to start reading buddies with primary one this week. Each week we will visit P1 on Thursday morning to read and help with boost words and spelling.

P6/7 Weekly News

This week our lead learners Cole and Joshua took charge of our blog post and gathered pupil voice to help them.

On Wednesday and Thursday Mrs Roy was teaching us about decimals and made it fun. We watched a video as our starter activity and then some of us used tenth strips or did written tasks. We can now read, identify and sequence decimal fractions.

The P7’s went to meet their buddies this week for some paired reading, it was nice to catch up with them all. We helped them with reading and spelling.

This week Mrs Roy was teaching us how to use GLOW and we learned how to email. We all had to email Mrs Roy and then choose someone else in the class to email. We entered the WLC Name a Gritter Competition via our emails. We know we have to be sensible when using GLOW. It is important that we bring our devices to school each day to allow us to log on and use the different tools, we are also going to be starting our GLOW profiles.

In writing we wrote letters to NASA applying for a job to work there. We had to write about our skills, achievements, talents, etc.

In PE we are focusing on fitness with Mr McCurdy and Mrs Roy.

Today our school basketball team are playing another school – good luck to everyone!!
