P4/5 Weekly News!

This has been a very inspirational week. We worked hard on different maths and numeracy activities and enjoyed sharing these with some of our parents at Ninian’s Natter. The highlight for most of us was baking cupcakes. We were focussing on reading scales and weighing out the correct amount of ingredients.

Another activity that we enjoyed was getting the chance to play one another’s home-made maths games. We had board games, online games,  physical games and quizzes.

We have had lots of opportunities to work in groups this week. One of the challenges was to make numbers 1-20 by only using the number 4 and the four processes. This was tricky!

We loved being part of the Sumdog competition set up for Inspirational Maths week.

We have taken a new approach to the daily mile which has proved to be a huge success so far. We now have to complete as many laps as possible and record the distance in miles ran as a class.

Hannah – ‘I liked creating a diamond in art using grid references.’

Emily – ‘I liked designing my own cupcake.’

Maliha – ‘I liked using number maps to share different strategies.’

Evie – ‘I liked completing the numbers to 20 challenge only using ‘4’.

Aoife – ‘I enjoyed improving my daily mile.’

Alekander + Aaron – ‘I liked making the icing to use on my cupcake.’

Mark – ‘I liked getting to eat my own cake that I made.’

Congratulations to this week’s lead learnes, Kasia and Kacper.

Have a good weekend, P4/5 and Miss Diamond :).

P4/5 Weekly News!

It has been a very busy first full week back in P4/5.  The class are all working well as a team and are enjoying learning together.   Highlights this week in our learning include learning our special prayer to St Ninian.  Using our novel Gangsta Granny by David Walliams, we have been exploring character feelings.

In Maths we have been looking at the importance of place value and we all had the chance to take part in a range of carousel activities to help us get more confident at sequencing numbers accurately.

We enjoyed Father Kenneth and Father Matthew speaking to us about what going to school is like in Malawi.   We would like to fundraise to help Father Matthew with his work and maybe write to some children in Father Matthew’s School.

Mark – I was sad when I heard that children in Malawi have classes with more than 100 pupils in them with only 1 teacher.   They also sit on rocks and don’t have chairs and desks.

Hannah –   I am enjoying reading Gangsta Granny and completing the activities that go with it.

Emily – I loved Maths this week and I am more confident with forward and backward numbers.

Evie –   I was shocked to learn that children in Malawi need to use rocks to help them count while we have lots of different things to use.

Ethan –  I loved taking part in handball this week in PE.

Aaron – I enjoyed playing buzz and shazam with Mrs Purdie on Friday.

Aoife –  We are excited that we will be researching the country of Spain for our new topic and we discussed what we would like to find out about Spain with Mrs Smith.

Primary 5 Weekly News

Primary 5 all feel refreshed after our summer holidays and we have had an amazing first week back!

We have started our first topic, based on our new class novel called The Astounding Broccoli Boy by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The story is all about a boy who suddenly turns green and is ‘Green by day, hero by night!’ We have started to discover what happens to him and we have been thinking about super heroes and what makes them super! We have started to think about what kind of super power we would all have, if we were suddenly to become superheroes.

We have also been creating our new class charter and we all decided to represent ourselves with  the theme of different Disney characters.  We all worked together to discuss the importance of a class charter and to decide on all the important points to include, ensuring that Primary 5 work hard, have lots of fun and enjoy  the best year ever!

We have talked about our learning and our hopes and expectations for Primary 5.

Here are our comments:

Jay: We are reading about The Astounding Broccoli Boy.

Louise: We are ready to set new goals.

Marcella: We made Disney characters.

P4/5 Weekly Update!

We have had a phenomenal first week back at school after our enjoyable summer holidays. We have all settled in well to Primary 4/5 ad are already working as a team. We certainly are ‘Superheroes in training!’

We decided that we would like our class charter to have an ‘emoji’ theme. We all created our own emoji to represent us on our class charter. Then we spoke about our rights and used our school values to help us brainstorm and personalise our own class charter. We will use this to make sure everyone has a successful year in P4/5, feels safe and enjoys coming to school.

Our class novel is ‘Gangsta Granny’ by David Walliams which we have started doing some work on. We have had to complete a word search, write instructions, draw illustrations and make our very own self portrait of us being Gangsta Granny’s apprentice.

We have thought about our learning and have set new goals for this session. We have decided to set one goal at a time allowing us to really focus on achieving it and will regularly evaluate our learning and set our next challenge.

We look forward to what P4/5 has in store for us this session.

Have a great weekend, P4/5 and Miss Diamond.

Outdoor Learning week in P5

Toni –  We enjoyed using the trundle wheel outside to measure the grass to the fence line.

Cole –  During our drama lesson outside we built an imaginary house.  It was great fun.

Paige and Rachel – Mrs Purdie shared with us in the Assembly how to be safe around stray dogs that do not have their owners.  We should remain calm and keep walking.

Rebecca – I enjoyed learning a new hymn – peace is flowing like a river with Mrs Smith on Friday.  I especially liked doing the actions.

Beth and Lorena –  In PE we used metre sticks to measure out 50 metres and then we ran this distance in groups trying to improve our time.

Joseph –  I was delighted to share with the class that I had been successful in getting to the next round of the Radio 2 500 words competition.

Brandon – I enjoyed coming back to school again to see all my friends again although it is tough to get up!

Vanessa –  I am excited about our new class topic –  the human body.   I am really interested in learning about the human body as I would like to have a job looking after people and keeping them well in the future.

Bea –  I enjoyed having Mrs Smith teaching us on Friday.

Lent Challenge -Wednesday 5th

Today’s challenge: If you can, attend the Reconciliation Service taking place on Wednesday 5 April at 7.00pm in St Andrew’s Church. (See you there!)

“This is a great opportunity for us to come together during Lent to acknowledge our sinfulness and celebrate God’s mercy in our lives, both individually and as a community. Fr Tony will lead a short service of Scripture reading, reflection and music. The service will end with individual confessions with one of the five priests available, after which you will be free to leave. A brief Examination of Conscience is offered on the insert in this week’s newsletter to assist in preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.”

This you tube clip is a fantastic way to remind children and adults alike about how to go to Confession:

Lent Challenge – Monday 3rd

Today we pray The Hail Mary and ask the Mother of Jesus to give us grace, strength and to protect us.

When you are finished saying the prayer, watch and listen to this beautiful piece of music called ‘Ave Maria’ composed by Franz Schubert. Beautiful!
