Our week began with  a nice start to technology week. We have taken part in technology workshops throughout the week. On Monday we learned all about sinking and floating and how the density of an object caused it to float or sink.

On Tuesday Primary 4 took part in the cluster school Handball festival. We worked really hard in our teams and had some very successful games with great results. We have really been working on our handball skills and Mrs Wassell can see definate improvements with our team work. We loved it so much so that we are asking Mr McCurdy if we can do that for our next block of PE.

This week was Ash Wednesday. We all took part in the school mass and sang the hymns beautifully. It was a lovely service. When we came back to class we discussed what lent meant to us and decided what our lenten promise would be for this year.

Cole B – My lenten is promise is to not play on my xbox because this is something   I do a lot.

Vanessa – For Lent I am going to give up eating sweetiies.

Chloe – For my lenten promise I am going to exercise more.

On Thursday we took part in a food technology workshop where we made beef fajitas. Ethan, Preston, Paige and ChiChi were the chefs for our fajitas. We thought they were delicious.

Grace – I learned how to make salsa from scratch.

Thomas – We also learned about food miles and how we can get meat very locally.

Kalin – I learned all about the nutrients in red meat. Protein helps your muscles grow.

This week has been a fabulous week.

This week we have started our new topic ‘A Wee Book of Fairy Tales in Scots.’

“The first story we read was the Three Wee Pigs.” Said Aidan

“This story was not the same because the words were different.” said Ailie

“It was in Scottish slang.” said Rachel.

“The book is really fun to read.” Said Evie

In drama we were leaning the skill of hotseating. Ailie was the Big Bad Wolf and the rest of the class were the news reporters. We had some interesting questions to ask the wolf about his terrible crime.

Then for art we went a hunt around our garden to find different things objects, shapes and textures to inspire our Big Bad Wolf picture. Take a look at some of our pictures.

The Big Bad Wolf is back!! Not only has he eaten the three wee pigs but he is on his way through the woods to get Wee Reid Riding Hood!!!! We need your help. Can you design something that can trap and capture the Big Bad Wolf?

You can show your design on a poster/diagram or you can use technology (powerpoint) to explain your design.

We kicked off the week with 2 fabulous performances. I’m sure you will all agree that there are real stars amongst P3 and 4! Thank you for all your help with preparing costumes and props and especially for coming to see us perform!

In Maths we have started division with remainders. We can divide by a single digit using a standard method. We have been playing lots of multiplication games to help us learn our tables to help with our division. Brandon really enjoyed ‘All around the world!”.

As it was Burns day on Monday 25^th of January we studied some of his poems with a focus on Scots language. We enjoyed trying to work out what some of the words meant. Rebecca learned that ‘reekin’ meant steaming. Max learned that ‘onie’ meant any.

For writing this week we wrote a recipe for making porridge. Charlie thought it was fabulous. Isla tasted porridge for the first time. She thought it was “Pure dead tasty!”

We learned all about verbs that we might use when cooking. Some of the verbs we thought of were; mix, stir, bake, cook, boil and cut. We had fun playing Verb Splat and learning a verb rap!

When we were doing the show we learned about 3 ‘Great Scots’! One of those great Scots was Robert the Bruce. We drew portraits of Robert the Bruce using line and tone. We did an amazing job!! They have made a fabby display.

This week has been amazing for all of us. This was because we got to perform in front of all our parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters.

Jay said “ It was very very awesome”

Aidan said “I felt very freaked out but after the show I felt very proud of myself.”

Joseph said “I felt like I was going to be sick.”

Rachel said “I was very nervous but after the show I felt tired and happy.”

Mark said “I felt like I was doing something crazy as I had never done anything like that before. I was glad that I remembered all of my lines.”

Haseeb said “I liked that I got to stand in for my friend Kacper as he was not at the night show.”

Ailie said “I just felt really excited and nervous at the same time.”

Aoife said “I felt that I was a little bit scared and after I felt happy because that I had completed my challenge.”

All of primary 3/4 would like to thank everyone who came to see us and who helped to organise our costumes. Thank you parents for helping us practice our lines.

This week has been busy and fabulous! said Shannon

We have been so busy doing our final practice for our show. Today we performed our show for the whole school.

Jay-P said “I felt nervous”

Caiden said “Thumbs up!”

Lukasz said “I felt proud.”

Yesterday we had time to squeeze in some writing. We made a Scottish dessert called Cranachan.

Charlie said “I likes id because it was great”

Rachel said “I liked it all except the raspberries.”

Now we can make a full Scottish dinner.

P4 have been rehearsing lots this week and now we are ready to perform. We had a dress rehearsal this morning for the whole school! We were fantastic! There were roars of laughter and even tears! We just know you will love it!!

In Art this week we painted lots of Scottish thistles and red roses to decorate the stage. We also created our own family tartan to make buntin. The stage is looking fabulous!!

In between rehearsals and music practices we have also been working super hard. This week we started division using a standard method. At first we found it quite tricky but we think we are getting the hang of it now. We have recognised that we need to know our times tables very well in order to do division so this is something we are going to continue working on. We are ready to tackle remainders next week. We had a little flavour of this with our challenge questions this week.

At the beginning of the week we were noun detectives. We had an opportunity to look through our books and highlight lots of nouns. We learned all about common nouns, pronouns and proper nouns.

We are now ready to relax and prepare over the weekend for the big day on Monday. We are rather excited to say the least. Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Happy New Year from primary 3/4!

We hope you all had a lovely, peaceful and restful holiday.

It has been a great start to 2016 in primary 3/4. We have been busy rehearsing for our show ‘Great Scot’s’ and can’t wait for everyone to see it. We have really been enjoying getting together with primary 3 and primary 4 to have a chance to watch their scenes and the story of their great Scot. You are all in for a great treat!

This week we have also been discussing our school values, which are important to us all. We focussed on our values of friendship and teamwork, being the best we can be; everyone has a voice and respect, honesty and equality. We thought about all the different ways that these things happen throughout our school. Next week we are going to use all of our fantastic ideas to create a poster for each value.
