A dreamy week in P4/5

This week has been a very busy week filled with dreams. We even welcomed a new boy Maciek all the way from Poland. We have all been very kind to him and have made sure he has had a super week.

Finlay – We made dream catchers with paper plates, wool, feathers and beads. I liked doing this and it’s been my favourite thing this week.

Lukasz – This week we were reading the BFG. I like the silly nonsense words that Roald Dahl uses in his books. It is funn-a-liciousy-do!

Lewis – In the BFG story we found out that the BFG eats snozzcumbers. We then looked at healthy and unhealthy foods. We made food pyramids for our diets and some of them had many sweets and chocolate. This is something we are going to try and eat less and eat more fruit and vegetables.

Aria – In maths this week we have been learning about rounding to the nearest 10. If the unit is 0,1,2,3 or 4 we round down to the nearest 10 and if the unit is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 we round up to the nearest 10. We did a maths assessment to see what we have remembered from P3 and P4.

Tanatswa – For reading this week, we read a passage from the BFG that had some silly words in it. We had to work in trios to identify the silly words and work out what the sensible word should be.

Mirren – Father Paul has left to go to a new parish so we learned a song to sing to him. It was a lovely song and he really enjoyed it.

Charlie – We also coloured a stain glass cross and wrote many nice words to describe Father Paul. These were put into a scrap book which was presented to him during his leaving assembly.

Check us out with our fantastic dream catchers.

The Dream Team in Primary 4!

We have had a fantastic first week in Primary 4! The Dream Team have enjoyed reading the BFG which is our chosen novel for our novel study this term! One of our favourite activities was painting a picture of the BFG using the description given in the book.  We particularly enjoyed learning about the author of The BFG, Roald Dahl.

We have been creating ‘selfies’. We drew self-portraits and wrote a short personal summary about ourselves.

To ensure everyone feels safe and is happy in P4, we made our class charter. We designed a strip for ‘The Dream Team’ to wear as we have decided that teamwork makes the dream work! We are all in the same team in our classroom!

We have introduced the number of the day board this week. This is to develop our mental maths skills. We have a mild, spicy and hot option to choose from, the hot option is VERY tricky!

We hope you have a great weekend,

The Dream Team.

P4/5 shining stars have a great first week!

P4/5 have had a very busy but exciting week. They have settled very well into their new shiny, colourful classroom. Here is some of the things P4/5 have been doing this week.

This has week has been awesome. We have been learning all about the BFG. (Jay-P)

We have been reading an exciting book called ‘The BFG’. We learned that the author of the BFG is Roald Dahl. It is a very special year for Roald Dahl because the 13th of September he would have been 100 if he was still alive. (Aria)

We used the description of the BFG from the book to draw a portrait of the BFG. (Finlay)

I was chosen for hot seating in drama and I took on the role of the BFG. I used a funny voice. (Nasim)Nasim drama

In drama I was Sophie. I answered questions from the children as Sophie. (Marcella)

On the first day of school we made superheroes and worked as a team to create a class charter. Our slogan is ‘With great power comes great responsibility’. (Lewis)

This week we did some revision maths using mild, hot and spicy. I liked that I got to chose what activity I got to do. (Abi)

We got to share with Mrs Wassell, Mrs Gardiner and our friends what we did during the summer holidays. we used describing words to describe how we felt. (Louise)

We hope you all have a super weekend and are ready for the week ahead.

P4 Weekly News

A super week in P4 this week. Lots of learning going on.

We have been exploring right angles this week in Maths. We took our learning outdoors and went on a right angle adventure! We had great fun!

In writing this week we wrote letters to Usain Bolt. We focused on the structure of a letter and ensured we used exciting vocabulary and asked Usain Bolt some interesting questions.

We have spent a lot of time rehearsing for the Thanksgiving mass on Sunday. Make sure you bring your hankies. Our singing makes Mrs Wassell cry! She thinks we are just wonderful.

We hope you all have a super weekend

Primary 3/4 News

This week we have been very busy completing all of our assessments.

We worked very hard during our writing assessment. It was very important for us to remember that we have to include all of our connectives, punctuation, openers and WOW words to make sure that our writing was very interesting.

“We wrote a letter to Usain Bolt” said Rachel

We asked him some really fantastic questions. Here are a few examples:

“What has been the biggest track that you have run on? said Evie

“Who inspired you to become the fastest runner in the world?” said Mark

“How much training did it take for you to become the fastest runner in the world?” said Adrin

“What kind of fruit and vegetables do you eat?” said Haseeb

“What are your likes and dislikes?” said Ailie

We hope he does very well in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

As a class we decided to spend our bake sale money on getting some new goldentime toys as our old toys were very OLD. So today we received all of our new goldentime toys and we can’t wait to play with them.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

“This week was super” said Adrin 🙂

On Wednesday with Mr Hunter in our outdoor learning we were creating an Olympic torch using junk modelling and sticks from outside.

“We had to use a cup and pierce a hole in the bottom with the stick. Then we had to put the stick in the cup and wrap it with tinfoil and put tissue paper in the cup.” said Ailie.

“The tissue paper was for the fake fire.” said Jay-P

“I enjoyed and it was really fun being creative.” said Shannon

“I put a stick at the bottom and then stuck another stick so that it would be a big torch.” said Hannah

“We also had a mini relay race with our torches. We had to jog instead of running in case our torch broke.” said Haseeb

“We hope you have a nice long weekend.” Said Aoife

Primary 4 had fun in the sun!

What a week we have had! The sun has been shining brightly and we have been working so hard. We have taken our learning outside this week with Maths. We have continued with learning all about fractions. We have learned how to find a fraction of a number. We worked in trios to show our understanding of this outside by using chalk and outdoor resources. Here are some pictures of us having fun learning.

fractions fractions 4  fractions 2fractions 3

Preston “If you are finding a third of a number you divide the number by 3!”

Vanessa “I am finding fractions fun!”

Taylor “Fractions are awesome”

Beth “I find fractions a little tricky but each time we do it I understand it a little bit more.”

In writing this week we have linked our learning to our IDL topic ‘The Olympics’. We learned how to draw a labelled diagram. We designed a new logo for the Olympics Rio 2016! They were fantastic. We had to think about each part of our design and make sure it linked to the Olympics or the country Brazil. We wrote detailed descriptions about each part of our logo.

We had a little treat this week and had some different teachers. We had Mrs Thompson for Art where we were learning about opposite colours. We also had Miss Naismith and Miss Williams for PE. We have been trying out some of the Olympic sports in PE. This week we were focusing on the high jump. Some of us could jump up to 80cm clearing the bar. We look forward to extending this next week.

This week we also had an opportunity to discuss our learning and our goals at Ninian’s natter. We had a focus on numeracy this time as we have been working so hard in Maths that we wanted to discuss and share our learning.

In reading this week we have been challenged. We have been looking at reading for meaning. We read various texts and had to answer questions using the text and our own knowledge. We found this particularly tricky however Mrs Wassell assures us we will be doing plenty more of this over the next term that we will be pros at it by the time we go into Primary 5!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Primary 3/4 News

“This week we started our new maths topic ‘fractions’ and it was very interesting” said Rachel.

“The denominator splits things into equal parts” said Evie

“The denominator is the number underneath the numerator.” said Ailie.

“We learned that the top number of a fraction is called the numerator” said Gaby.

“We learned about halves, quarters, thirds. We even spoke about eighths.” Said Jacob

“We worked in teams to split different shapes up into equal parts.” said Shannon.

“The denominator needs to make sure that it splits shapes and numbers into EQUAL parts.” said Kacper.

“We learned that the numerator tells us how many parts are coloured in a fraction.” Said Hannah and Jay.

Next week we will be moving on to how to find out a 1/2 and ¼ of a number.

Mrs Kerr was even pretending to be a robot denominator and numerator. “I will be back next week.” said Mrs Kerr.

Well done to Jan who won this month’s award at our achievements assembly.

Big congratulations to all the primary 4 children who made their Confirmation last Sunday.

Have a lovely weekend!

Summer Fair

summer-fair-web-poster

Our Summer Fair is on Saturday 7th May 10am till 12noon. Pupils were issued a leaflet in school bags this week.

The event needs a large number of volunteers to man the stalls and we really struggle to get people to help. May be you could help for 1 hour or may be 2 hours? Volunteers can be parents, carers, grandparents, aunties/uncles – all family members are welcome to lend a hand. Get in touch via facebook or leave your contact details at the office – WE NEED YOU!

“Technologies week is the best week ever” said Mark.

“It has been really fun and awesome.” said Brooke

“It has been really really exciting.” said Ailie

On Wednesday we enjoyed our trip to West Lothian College to visit the Engineering and Science department. During this trip we had a tour of the workshop. We got to see lots of different people working to build walls, stairs, and really cool machines to cut metal.

“I liked seeing all the big machines” said EvieIMG_0322[1]

IMG_0330[1]

Finally we got to have a peek at the electricians hard at work. “My favourite was the electricians.” said Caiden. After our grand tour we had a chance to build our own machines.

“My team built an alarm with a horn and lights. This was tricky to build but we got in the end.” said Hannah.

“I built the siren it was really complicated even for the people helping but we got it in the end. It was fun!” said Aoife

“I built a car. It was kind of tricky because the wires were hard to put in the tiny holes.” said Adrin

Thank you WesIMG_0373[1]t Lothian College for a great trip.

Yesterday we had a visitor from Scotch Beef. During this visit we had a look at the different symbols for meat and what they mean.

“The symbols meant the animals never went out of Scotland.” said Mark

“This also meant that the animals have had a very happy life.” Said Gaby

The lady was teaching us all about the vitimans that meat can give you and how this helps your body.

“The meat can give strength, helps your blood cells, it can help with your bones and it can heal your cuts and give you extra energy.” said Jan

“We had a chance to make beef faijtas. They tasted like beef and vegetable. I didn’t really but I gave it a try.” said Joesph

“The faijtas tasted like heaven!” said Rachel

Have a lovely long weekend!
