Mrs Docherty HWB: Feelings 27.5.20

Good morning everyone. This week’s Health and Wellbeing theme will be feelings and how we can explore them with our children. There are so many feelings for children to name and recognise and it is good to encourage our children to begin to both recognise these and how they make us feel.

I have included a lovely link below for a story all about feelings called In my Heart. Please listen to the story and share it with your child as a way of supporting them to recognise feelings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIfLgHBwYx4

For today I thought it would be good to share ideas about how we can talk about feelings.

Knowing your Feelings:

It is easy to talk ab out feelings when we know how we feel and why we feel that way. Some ways to achieve this with your child include:

  • Think of the name for how you feel. (Maybe you feel upset.)
  • Think of why you feel that way. (Maybe you feel this way because of how much things have changed for us and because our routine is different)
  • Get your child to put these two points together into words. (Say to yourself, “I feel upset about Coronavirus.”)
  • If your child doesn’t know why they feel a certain way, you can still talk about it. You can say, “I feel upset but I don’t know why.”

Pick someone to talk to:

It is good for your child to choose someone to talk to. In school we do this using the helping hand approach. On each finger the child identifies someone they can talk to. Try this at home too. It is a good way for your child to know there will always be someone to talk to.

  • Let them know that the other person will listen
  • They might give them advice or they might even make them laugh
  • Let them know they have someone to share their worry or indeed their excitement with as all feelings are good to share.

Taking time to talk to someone and taking the time to listen is such a key part of allowing your child to explore and identify their feelings . I hope you have enjoyed the story and if you try any of the ideas please let me know.

Have a great day everyone,

Mrs Docherty

Maybe today as part of your Healthy Body topic you could design and make a healthy lunch snack. For mine I am going to have a chicken salad with lettuce, spring onion, tomato, chicken, gherkins, sweetcorn and diced beetroot. Do you think I have a balanced plate of food? If you would like to share your creation add it to your One Note profile or let me know in the comments section.

How are you getting on with Hit the Button: what is your highest score?

In your literacy can you add suffixes to your spelling words. Did you have to double the last letter, did you have to drop a letter to add your suffix? Don’t forget about those long and short vowels when deciding what to do. You can post this on your One Note too.

Can you think about what makes our Education special as part of our weekly Right: You Have the Right to an Education. You could write a sentence or draw a picture to show this.

Have a great day everyone and please know I am here if you need anything. Enjoy your learning and don’t forget to share it with us.

Mrs Docherty’s Positive Song for the Week I’ll be There for You: 25.5.20

Good morning and welcome to another week of online learning. This week’s song is a positive upbeat song about Friendship. It is a song that also sends a positive message to each and every one of our St Ninian’s families and staff. Friendship is the bond that is supporting and guiding us through these times. It is what helps us to check in, share good news, provide support and has made us smile since the start of lockdown.

Please have a listen to the song by clicking the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8PNXgLhkT0

The words in the song definitely suit the times we are living in just now and also convey exactly what we as a staff would like to say to each and every one of you:

I’ll be there for you
When the rain starts to pour
I’ll be there for you
Like I’ve been there before
I’ll be there for you
‘Cause you’re there for me too

Every week I share messages about being the rainbow in someone else’s storm and how important it is to appreciate the little things in life and without a shadow of a doubt one of the simplest and most important things to focus on going forward is Friendship. On that we would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing friendship and support and know that you too have ours.

Have a great week filled with love and laughter and of course Friendship.

Mrs Docherty HWB: Positive Thought for the Week: 22.5.20

Another week has flown by and I hope you have all had a good week and continued to make memories.

Every week we hope we are getting closer to returning to the way things were and to being able to see each other again, hearing laughter in the playground, seeing smiling faces all around and experiencing the sound of joy in our daily lives. Things we all took for granted before now become so important and precious.

As a school we have been amazed at how much you have come together to support us and also to support each other. 9 weeks have already gone by and I think that what we have all learned is how strong we are and much we can achieve in challenging times. On that note our special quote for this week is:

You have certainly risen to the challenges and overcome them all with great strength and compassion so thank you and remember:

Please have a lovely relaxing weekend and enjoy doing the things you love most. Stay safe and keep smiling.

Take care,

Mrs Docherty

Mrs Wassell’s P3 Update 22.5.20

Good morning P3!  We hope that you have had  a great week.  It has been so lovely to receive emails and see your work on your OneNote profiles this week.

As it is Friday, today we are going to review our learning for the week.

Maths

This week in Maths we were working on our multiplication skills and you had a choice of activities to complete.  Use these answer keys to traffic light your learning.

Writing

This week you have been writing wonderful descriptions of the candy house.  We have been so impressed with the work that you have posted on your OneNote profiles and emailed to us!

Your success criteria was to:

  • include adjectives in your description
  • use capital letters and full stops
  • spell key words correctly
  • use openers to begin your sentences

Use a pink pen and a green pen to highlight what you did really well and what you’d like to improve in your writing.

Review your week

Think about all of the activities you have completed this week.  Choose two things that you have done really well (stars) and one thing that you would like to improve.  Write down your two stars and a wish or tell them to an adult.

Have a lovely weekend!

Good Morning Primary 3!

Core Grid Week 7 P3

How are you all getting on with writing your description of the candy house? I love the pink and white, soft, fluffy marshmallow window frames. They look delicious!

Today is outdoor classroom day.   Here are some outdoor activities we have  planned  for you to try in your garden or when on your daily exercise. We would love it if you could  take some pictures and share them on your OneNote profile or email them to us.

Bug Hotel

Placing a bug hotel in the garden helps attract different insects to naturally visit your garden. Over the next few weeks it will be really interesting to see what bugs come to visit your garden. Lots of bugs help keep garden pests away and protect the beautiful flowers. Can you make your own bug hotel for your garden or an area you like to visit? Here are some examples. Try to use recyclable materials.

Bird Feeder

I love seeing all the different types of birds visiting my garden. Bird feeders help attract birds to come and visit you. Can you make your own bird feeder using recyclable materials? Here are some examples.

Dressing up in Nature

Dressing up can be lots of fun! Can you use nature to create some dressing up items?

– Make a nature crown out of leaves, cardboard or twigs.

– Use a cardboard box and paints to make beautiful butterfly wings.

– Turn yourself into your favourite animal with a simple mask.

Feast of the Ascension

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension and had we been at school we would have celebrated mass together as a school family.
Fr Kenneth has prepared a video for us to reflect on today https://youtu.be/SuwTAI18wpU.  Happy Feast Day!

Have a great day.
