Visit from The Dog Trust

We had a very special visitor this morning: Emma from The Dog Trust. Emma brought along her furry friend, Harry, to teach us all about looking after dogs and how to be safe around them.

Emma chose some enthusiastic volunteers from our class, to help show everyone how we should treat dogs. Here are a few photos of our class helpers!

Kyle learned how to use a stethoscope and how to spray the dog to prevent fleas. Aaron learned how to check a dog to find out if it has been micro-chipped. Patryk learned that he should ask the owner before patting a strange dog.

Super learning in Primary 3

Primary 3 have had a fantastic week filled with lots of learning. We thoroughly enjoyed our roots of empathy this week because baby Hana came into the class. We got to explore her likes/dislikes and asked many questions about what baby Hana could do. Many of the answers were ‘Not Yet’. We look forward to seeing her develop over the year. We also had a special visitor today. Mrs McGonigal came to do some listening games with us. She was very impressed with how well we can listen. We played some super games.

Here are some highlights of our week;

Poppy – We have been learning new spelling patterns. I learned ‘ee’ spelling pattern this week. I like using the pebbles to practise my words.

Julia – In PE this week we were doing cooperation games. My favourite game this week was chain tig.

Ryan – For writing this week we wrote our own imaginative chapter for the owl who was afraid of the dark. My chapter was called ‘Dark is Awesome’.

James – In maths this week we were comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to. I enjoyed the video to help me learn this.

Matthew – This week I have been a lead learner. I got to lead the talking books and I could put forward names to get class dojos for working hard.

Chloe – This week I have also been a lead learner. I have felt very responsible. I have enjoyed it.

Ahmad – I have enjoyed learning about 3 digit numbers this week and can give the number before and after a number. E.g. 100 – the number before 100 is 99 and the number is 101.

Kayden – This week we had a special visitor – baby Hana. She is our roots of empathy baby. She was very happy coming to our class.

Angelina – Baby Hana can make little noises and she likes to smile. We lay her on her tummy to see if she liked it and she did.

Vanessa – This week in RE we were comparing Father Kenneth to the Good Shepherd. They both are kind, they make us feel welcome and always forgive us.

Primary 2/3 Weekly News

What a busy week of learning it has been in Primary 2/3!

Everyone took their new reading books home and worked really hard on their literacy skills.

On Wednesday everyone was so excited to work with Mrs McCabe and Mrs Stewart to make fruit kebabs. We tried so many different fruits including greengages and pomegranates. We’ve already planned toppings for our pizzas next week – you can read our ideas in our talking book.

Writing was a focus for us on Thursday and we wrote about how we made fruit kebabs in Food Technology.

In IDL we continued to read The Enormous Crocodile and then thought about healthy and unhealthy foods for the crocodile.

In numeracy we have been working on numbers to 10, 100 and 100. Today we thought about how each of us learns best to help us plan our maths learning for the term. Some children like to use technology, some like to use counting cubes, some like to play games. We were all amazed by the range of ideas.

We were so excited when the UN Ambassadors arrived in our class today to share the fantastic news that we have been awarded the Level 2 RRS Award. Well done everyone!

In PE we worked on co-operative skills and learnt two new games – Video Games and Capture the Treasure.

Our Spanish focus this week was asking our friends what their name is in Spanish then telling them our names. We were so confident in our language skills!

Awesome P3!

Another very busy week for Primary 3!

SHELTER BUILDING – OUTDOOR LEARNING & TEAMWORK

The whole class showed their resilience and ability to cope well with change on Tuesday when our Shelter Building Activity was postponed at the very last minute. This was unavoidable due to the weather but we are delighted to announce that it will now be taking place on Tuesday 20 June in the afternoon (P1-P3 Sports Day in the morning)…..so watch this space!

RE/HWB

Primary 3 also discussed the importance of having enough sleep, rest and exercise each day. They were very good at explaining how they feel when they are tired and how this can impact on how well they concentrate in school.

In Maths, we were consolidating our understanding of Measure as well as looking at timetables and durations of time then combining this with some interpretation of diagrams. The boys and girls enjoyed using Mr McCurdy’s Health Week timetable to do this where they had to interpret the information to find out which day P3 were doing a particular activity, where the activity was being held, the time the activity started/finished then working out how long it lasted.

GLOBAL GOALS – Clean Water and Sanitation

Primary 3 have been really thinking hard this week about the availability of clean water in school (or at home) and clean toilets which flush – things we all take for granted. They saw images of poor toilets in some African countries for schoolchildren and had to imagine what they would do if they didn’t have access to either taps or toilets – not pleasant but the children were really engrossed and engaged in considering these situations. In writing they had to suggest reasons as to what might happen if there were not taps or toilets in St Ninian’s – ask your child to explain what they wrote about!

READING – Primary 3 have continued to develop their independence at making sense of what they read  by accessing non-fiction texts  and finding information from the texts to answer questions.

BIG TALK homework next week

Would you rather be the Three Little Pigs or the Wolf? Give your reasons!

Have a lovely weekend from Mrs Scott and Primary 3!
