Core Grid Week 1 P3 (1)

P3/4 Weekly News!

Learning Overview from Primary 3/4

Primary 3/4 have chosen to share the following learning from this week!

In Literacy we have been improving our accuracy and understanding at using their, there and they’re.

  • we should use ‘they’re’ as a shorter way of writing ‘they are’
  • we should use ‘their’ when we are writing about something ‘belonging to’
  • we should use ‘there’ when we are writing about ‘position’

We also wrote Haiku poems about Spring and they had to have a syllable rhythm of 5, 7, 5.

In Maths we were using what we have learned so far to convert digital times to analogue times and vice versa.

For example

‘quarter to one would be 12.45’

‘half past six would be 6.30’

HWB

In PE we have been learning some of the rules for Basketball matches eg ‘bouncing the ball when running’ and ‘taking two steps with the ball in your hand’

As a class, most of Primary 3/4 tried hard to keep running for the whole of the Daily Mile.

‘We kept encouraging each other to keep going and that helped us’

Pupil Voice – Our Highlights…

We practised our times tables. We had to make sure we had the correct answers so we could complete our coloured mosaics properly. It was fun.

We are very proud at how hard we worked and focused  when completing our SNSAs as well.

Home Learning Opportunity

This idea of creating cloze sentences is a good one!  Make some sentences with spaces for words. Someone in your family has to decide which words will fit so that the sentences still make sense.

P3 Weekly Update

Learning Overview

Literacy

This week we wrote descriptions of our school bags, with a focus on adjectives and action verbs.  In spelling we consolidated our learning by using our newly-found typing skills to type our words then change size and font.    In Word Boost, our boost words were sink, wreck, consult, rattle, havoc and advice.  We have continued to listen to The Bolds To The Rescue, read by the author Julian Clary, with lots of giggles throughout.  The hardest part of listening to this book, we all agree, is switching off the audio book at the end of each chapter.

Maths

In maths we have learnt about fractions – making and naming equal parts and then identifying equal parts.  Our next step is to name fractions then to count fractions.  Everyone had a great time making fractions, cutting them out then checking their work.

HWB

Our focus this week has been on wider achievements when all the children shared the amazing things that they have achieved outside school – ranging from baking a cake to swimming lengths of the pool!

IDL

Learning on the Vikings continues to engage everyone and we used Mighty Writer to create fabulous imaginative stories about our character, Sam The Viking.  After researching artefacts and discussing sources of evidence everyone designed their own Viking shield. We were surprised to learn that a Viking shield could be a metre wide!

Pupil Voice

Evie – I liked learning about fractions.

Victoria- I liked listening to the story of the Bolds.  I like listening to the audio book.

Alasdair – I liked writing a description of my school bag.

Leon – I liked drawing pictures in the play area.

Home Learning

Talk about fractions in the home e.g. half a pizza, quarter of an apple etc. Consolidate learning on fractions by trying this Topmarks game at home – click here.

Hand Washing – keep up the hand washing at home and remind your child how to wash their hands correctly.

Keep listening to the fabulous stories on the World Book Day website – click here.

As always, please remind your children to wash their hands carefully.

Have a lovely weekend.

P3 Weekly News

Learning Overview

In literacy we have completed our work on writing procedures by writing instructions to cross the road.  Look out for our fabulous work in our jotters and see how we have included goals, materials and steps as well as using strong verbs, adjectives and punctuation.  We loved peer-assessing each other’s work as we took a learning walk around the classroom then had great fun stealing ideas from each other!  Handwriting has been another focus this week and we have begun to join easy words – ill, tilt, lit and it.  We used our success criteria to self assess this work – look out for the pink and green highlighted work in our jotters.  We all love a highlighter in P3!

In maths we have continued our work on addition and subtraction by using fact families and multiples of ten to help us add.  We’ve loved using counting beads to help us work and worked really well with our learning partners.

Our health and well-being focus has been road safety week and we’ve been busy writing procedures to cross the road and making safety posters.  Road safety was our outdoor learning focus as we designed roads in the playground then helped our friends to cross safely.

We loved sharing our Read, Write, Count bags with our families on Wednesday – it was great to have so many families join us to explore the contents of our lovely bags.

Drama was another highlight as we explored different ways of using our voices and had great fun trying to make our voices sound high and low, loud and quiet, slow and fast.

Pupil Voice

Abigail’s highlight was the visit from the Five Sisters Zoo. The zookeeper told us all about endangered animals and her job.

Road safety week was Micah’s highlight because he learned how to stay safe near roads. He especially loved making a poster to keep others safe.

Riley loved creating pictures of how we look when we feel good, in Smart Start, as part of our work on Resilience

.Next Steps – Home Learning Opportunities
