P1M Weekly News

Here are the children’s highlights of our learning this week:

Oliver: “the ‘s’ sound is blue.”

Seren: “it is blue because the back of our tongue is blue and the ‘s’ sound comes from our tongue.”

Chloe: “we were making the ‘s’ sound with pipe cleaners.”

Eve: “we made a Harry and the dinosaurs book.”

Kayla: “we stuck on the author and illustrators name onto the bottom of the book.”

Isabelle: “the title goes at the top of the book.”

Hanna: “we learned how to write the number 8.”

Mark: “we went a walk around the school and saw Mrs Roy.”

Liam: “I made a dinosaur and wrote about the dinosaur. I was the star writer.”

Victoria: “we were writing numbers in flour trays. I wrote the number 8.”

Robert: “we made dinosaurs using plasticine”

Chloe: “we took vidoes with our dinosaurs.”

Blake: “in PE when the music is on we done lots of travelling like running or galloping and when the music stops you freeze or find your own space.”

Evie: “We made a letter ‘p’ with pasta.”

Joshua: “We have a ‘s’ box and a ‘p’ box. Pasta is in the pink ‘p’ box and scissors are in the ‘s’ blue box.”

Below are some ideas to support learning at home:

If you make something at home e.g. a dinosaur, why don’t you make a movie by filming you acting out a story with your creation – great ideas for oral literacy and improving your technology skills!

We were learning about ‘heavy and light’ – what things can you find in your house that are heavy and what things are light?

‘s’ is a blue sound because we use our tongue to make this sound. Can you find the blue veins on the bottom of your tongue. ‘p’ is a pink sound, we make this sound from our lips. Some lip sounds are red because they are loud sounds like ‘m’ but ‘p’ is a quiet lip sound so this is a pink sound. Here are the songs we used to support learning.

P1M Weekly News

What a busy week we have had in P1M.

In numeracy we have working on number formation, sequencing numbers within 5 and counting to 20. Below are some links for videos and games you can use at home to support learning.

In literacy we have introduced 2 sounds this week. The ‘m’ sound and the ‘c’ sound. We have learned that the ‘m’ sound is a red sound, because we make this sound from our lips and our lips are red. We put jam on our lips and made the long ‘mmmmmmmmm’ sound because the jam was very tasty! The ‘c’ sound, is a yellow sound. We make this sound from the back of our moths, we used a torch to look into the back of our partners mouth and when we shone the torch, their mouth turned yellow! Here are some songs we have learned to help us remember the ‘m’ and c’ sounds.

Next week we are learning the ‘s’ and ‘p’ sounds. Do you have the ‘s’ or ‘p’ sound in your name?

Finally, we continued our ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs’ topic by listening to the story ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School’. We were able to compare the way Harry was feeling starting school with our own experiences. In the story, a boy called Jack named himself Jack-osaurus. We thought this was very funny so painted our own dinosaurs and gave them funny names. Mark’s dinosaur was called Mark-osaurus, Blake’s dinosaur was called Blake-osaurus – you get the idea! We can’t wait to show you our paintings!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Meechan and P1M

Fun fun fun in Primary 1B!

Well I think all of Primary 1B will be spending their weekend sleeping as it’s been one busy week!

We have survived our first full week and days of school and we have done it with lots of smiles.

This week in numeracy we have continued with our number formation and enjoyed forming the numbers 5 and 6.
Our rhymes have been helping us with our formation.

We have also been ordering the numbers to 5 and had to cut and stick the numbers into the correct order in our maths jotter.

This game helped us with our understanding of ordering numbers to 10.

In our number talks/ CLIC session we have been practising our counting using songs. We loved the following songs and really enjoy the actions.

In measure this week we have been learning the language of Largest, smallest and tallest, shortest.

Miss Boyes showed us pictures of different sized dinosaurs, she asked us to circle the largest or the smallest.

Using the dinosaur toys we put them in order from the smallest dinosaur to the largest and largest to the smallest.

We also used the measuring tape to measure our height and we put our friends in height order to experience the concept of measure in a real-life context.

In literacy we have been learning the m and c sounds this week. We know the m is a red sound because we use our lips to make this sound and c is a yellow sound because when we shine the torch in our mouth we can see what the back of our tongue is doing to make this sound. The back of our tongue scrapes the back of our mouth.
We love the following songs which help us with our sounds:

We experienced a writing lesson for the first time this week, our success criteria was to hold our pencil correctly, use the sounds which we know (m and C) and to be able to talk about our writing. We shared our favourite part of primary 1 so far in our writing.

This week we had PE with Mr Mc Curdy and we loved learning to travel around the hall in different ways and play games with the parachute. We had to use really good listening skills in PE this week.

On Friday we drew our own picture of a dinosaur for our topic and then we painted our dinosaur. We done a great job not mixing the paints and even painted the landscape around our dinosaur. Miss Boyes was very impressed with our painting skills and she loved putting our paintings on display.

We loved our tour of the school and visiting all of the teachers and the children in their class. They were all so happy to see us and we almost felt famous. We took a photo of them with our iPad and we will be drawing a picture of them next week.

We paid a visit to the nursery this week to visit the morning and afternoon children, we loved visiting our old friends.

We can’t wait to see our class photo when it is published! J

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and P1B!

Fantastic first week for P1!

Wow! What a fantastic week all of the children have had in Primary 1B!

Even though we have only had half days we have managed to fit in lots of learning activities.

This week we have been doing number formation, drawing patterns in letter join, practising writing our names, we have talked about how we feel about school and we have started our Novel Study “Harry and The Dinosaurs.”

On Friday we went to our first ever assembly and we all listened very carefully to Mrs Purdie. We also received our house badges, our aim is to try to gain points for our house (Glasserton- blue, Whithorn- yellow, Galloway- green and Calder-red).

We have already discussed our class charter and made up our own rhyming poem to help us remember the promises. On Friday we spoke to Miss Boyes about our learning goals for term 1 and we all thought of sensible goals which we will try to achieve.

I am super proud of all of the children this week for starting school in such a positive way. I have thoroughly loved my first week as a Primary 1 teacher and can’t wait for what’s ahead in P1B!

Our PE days next week are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and Primary 1.

Welcome to P1M

The fantastic children of P1M have had a super first week of school filled with fun and laughter.

Here are some of our highlights:

This week we have been getting to grips with our classroom routines. We have now mastered changing between our indoor and outdoor shoes really quickly and getting our coats off first thing in the morning. When we come into school there are always different activities for us to take part in straight away. The favourite ‘soft start’ task of this week was the construction, we have some fantastic builders and engineers in the making in P1M!

In numeracy this week we have working on numbers within 10. We have been learning how to form these numbers correctly using little rhymes to help us.

2 “half a heart says ‘I love you’, add a line, now I’ve made the number 2”

3 “around the tree, around the tree, now I’ve made the number 3”

4 “down and across and down once more, now I’ve made the number 4”

If you are practising writing your numbers at home, these rhymes will help you. What number do you think we will be learning about on Monday?

We have been forming our numbers using lots of fun ways, writing in our number formation booklet, using the glitter trays and using play-doh too. These are some other ideas for you to try out at home too.

We listened to the story ‘Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs’ this week and decided that this would be a very fun topic for our first ever topic at school. After listening to the story we thought about what different activities we would like to take part in based on this topic. Miss Meechan was very pleased with some of our ideas and we have displayed this on our ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs’ wall just outside our classroom. We took part in a dinosaur themed ‘structured play’ session after listening to this story. This was lots of fun!

We visited the morning nursery class to let our old friends know how we were getting on. We can’t wait to visit the afternoon class next week and speak to our old friends there too!

And of course, the favourite activity of the week had to be golden time! We can’t wait for golden time again next week. During golden time we get to play with our friends in P1B!

All the children are looking forward to full days next week and having their lunch in the lunch hall.

See you on Monday, have a lovely weekend.

Presenting and performing in P1R

The highlight for our class this week was our class assembly today. Over the last few weeks we have been writing our script, practising our lines, practising our songs and making a headpiece to wear linked to our speaking parts. Every child wanted to have a speaking part which shows how confident they have all become. Ephraim also took a leading role in our finale song and had to do a solo piece, we were all really proud of him. Thank you to all the grown ups who helped the children prepare for this assembly at school and at home, we couldn’t have done it without you. The biggest thank you goes to the children – they were amazing!!

If you were unable to attend I have attached the link to the SWAY presentation on my Twitter page @mrsroy16.

We have also posted some photographs for you to have a look at.
